I'm wondering... With the newer-gen DVD recorders coming out from Toshiba, are they compatible with the CE-Link standard for Regza HDTVs? This would be good to know if they were or not. Was this limited to their HD DVD players, or was it compatible with any recent Toshiba product?

EDIT: Let me make this less confusing. I have a Regza 37" 37HL67, and I have the D-R400 coming my way from J&R. I'm wondering if I'm going to get any extra features with this hookup via HDMI, that I wouldn't get with a non-Toshiba HDTV?

I do not have my DR400 hooked to a HDTV, but from the manuals I see that the only advantage is the upscale feature to 720 or 1080p. Once you connect the hdmi cables the player will automatically identify the best possible setting (720 or 1080) and set it to that format. I do know one of my friends using it with a Vizio HDTV and it seems to work great for him, though he is still figuring out how to bars on the L, R sides of the screen.

I could be wrong!

Check the specs on the Toshiba website. The 410 sports the Regza CE link, the 400 does not. Apparently, you send commands to your TV, and they are relayed to your DVD recorder over the HDMI link. So, yes, more functionality via HDMI for Toshiba devices that talk Regza CE link. Exactly what and how useful that would be, I can't imagine.
