Greetings everyone. My husband and I are moving in a couple of weeks, and I've just about finished finding all of the parts that will constitute our new Home Theater.

Can you look below and give your thoughts? I haven't purchased anything yet, so if you see anything that will cause issues, or think there is a better solution out there, please let me know.

Thanks!

Have you considered a projector/screen combo for the display? You can go a lot bigger for less or the same money.

Hi SCHNEEDOO!

I looked at projectors, but none matched the image quality of the Kuro from what I've seen and read. Apparently nothing does right now.

You don't necessarily need an upscaling DVD player if you're running the signal through your receiver. I believe both the Pioneer DVD and Receiver uses the same Faroudja DCDi video processor anyways.
In which case, you might as well just play DVDs using your old DVD player or the PS3, and let the Receiver do the upscaling. (Also, the Kuro has a pretty decent video processor as well.)

As for receivers, if they fix the audio lag issue with the Onkyo 905 or 875, their Reon video processor is superior over the Faroudja.

The Pioneer receiver has a crappy OSD and not that easy to set up for beginners.
If you plan to use your receiver as a streaming media player, I suggest you get a receiver with a nicer interface and better OSD. The new Denons and Sonys have nice GUIs.

No reason you can't do both. When size isn't taken into account you're not going to match the plasma with a PJ in PQ. But you can get a really good picture from a good projector (perhaps much better than you'd expect), combine that with you getting double or more the size, and the plasma pq advantage becomes a non issue. This is all asssuming you can control your viewing environment of course.

At any rate, what I'm recommending is that you see a projector in it's intended environment, not in a big box showroom. And make your decision based on that.

I don't see a theater, just a list of equipment.

I recently purchased a used Toshiba A35 that was demo'ed in an Onkyo 905 system with a Klipsch 5.1 surround system (and a 60" Kuro). I left with the general impression that it was a terrific system with an excellent price/performance ratio.

My sole issue with the 60" Kuro was it didn't do blacks well, but I doubt the tv was calibrated.

Agreed. Unfortunately, this sub-forum seems to be the catch-all for all questions related to home theater, running the gamut from "which speaker should I use in my HT" to all out gorgeous HT construction threads.

This is in no way a knock on the OP. There should simply be another place for these types of questions.

Back on topic, with the quality and affordability of HD projectors on the market today, you are probably doing yourself an injustice by not going with an FP set-up. Most of us believe a home theater w/o a PJ is just a room with a nice TV. Bigger is always better.

I would advise to go in the Speaker forum. I spent months there before I made the move to go with Def. Techs for my 7.1 setup. Just my .$02...I also looked at projectors and wasn't sold on the PQ compared to a large screen plasma (which I finally ended up just buying).

It also depends on whether or not you want a home theater experience. Even with a 60" Plasma (like the Kuro), the full benefit of 1080p is only visible when you're sitting at 6', which is also the recommended THX distance for that size screen. I don't know many people that sit 6' from their display. In other words, not only will you not get an immersing experience with a Plasma, but your also probably better off saving some money and getting a 720p display as you won't be able to tell the difference from your seating distance (assuming the seating distance is greater than 6').

The Kuro is certainly an impressive set, in fact it's my favorite display, but if you are wanting any type of theater experience or are sitting 10' back (which most people do), then it's a waste of money as you'll never realize its benefits anyway.
