This vhs/dvd player-recorder generally works great. However, maybe 20% of the time the manual vhs-to-dvd dub turns out coasters. The disc won't finalize on the machine, saying there's something wrong with the disc and to check it. Windows explorer shows only a 22kb audio cd file on each disc. Circumstances that I recall during dubbing: one burn was uneventful (I think), another one or two at the end of the 2hour home movie I couldn't get "Please wait..." off the screen. The machine was hung up; the only way I could get it to function was to unplug it.
I'm using TDK DVD-R discs.
Thanks.

Have you tried using a different brand? Please note that some brands (different brands) are made by the same manufacturer.

I've used discs on my recorder that were not recommended by the recorder's manufacturer without any problems. I've also had some brands that only worked some of the time and I learned not to use them again.

Thanks for the reply, wristpad. As best as I can recall, this has happed only with the TDKs. About half of a large spindle of blanks is left. I thought the problem might be related to brand. I have a few Sony's on hand, and will try to use them to see if the problem arises with them.
