Crossing my fingers for no delays. ;)
that cover art is probably the coolest I've ever seen. I already have zodiac on on server and the PQ is astonishung. If this has lossless as well I may DD assuming the PQ is the same or better
lgans316 03-19-08, 07:48 AM Paramount encoded Zodiac on HD DVD using AVC. Warner will use VC-1 which ain't liked by many BD fans. I am not sure if Warner will release the bonus contents in HD like Paramount did.

Warner released every Paramount movie in Europe with Extras in HD and PCM/ Dolby True HD audio for the main feature on one disc :)
So, i don't see why Zodiac shouldn't get the same treatment ;)
Phantom Stranger 03-19-08, 10:13 PM I'll be buying this if it has a lossless soundtrack. I do expect this to be one of the first titles Paramount releases though.

Which is funny because it is the exact same cover Paramount used for the US HD DVD release.
John Ballentine 03-20-08, 07:48 AM Wonder how much longer the Director's cut is?

About 7 minutes, I think. One of the new scenes is very welcome, as it provides a pretty concise summary of everything that has happened up until that point. I'm not a big fan of too much exposition, but in a movie that really bombards you with facts, ideas and bad leads, it's good.

raoul_duke 03-20-08, 04:50 PM LOL!! Just after I got annoyed with waiting and bought the HD DVD version on ebay!
Just finished watching a few scenes and some extras on the Swedish release of Zodiac on Blu-ray.
The PQ is simply stunning in this VC-1 encode as it was on HD-DVD (havn't actually seen it but read the reviews). The audio however is real dissapointment with only DD@640kbs.
All the extras that was in HD on HDDVD is in HD here as well EXCEPT the Zodiac Decipherd: behind the scenes documentary wich is encoded with VC-1 in SD. WHY WHY WHY?!?!?
*checks discsize*
43GB used on disc....
Wonder why Warner is waiting to Sept 1st to release it in the UK?!?
Imeldhil 05-07-08, 02:52 PM Spain is getting this one too I think on the 23 or something like that.
Snake Plisken 05-07-08, 02:53 PM yeah thats dissappointing about the sound, warner did the same on The Prestige with crappy DD5.1, will wait for Paramount to release the US version and if it has PCM or DTS-HD MA I might double dip as I've already got the HD-DVD

I thought the DD+ soundtrack on the HD-DVD sounded great. Not sure how much this movie would benefit from a lossless soundtrack.

Yeah but as Blu-Ray can't handle DD+ you just got plain old vanilla Dolby Digital, I was sorry I didn't buy the HD-DVD version when I found out about the DD, but as with most European releases its very hard to get the specs on Blu-Rays before they hit the stores, for example Signs is released on Monday here in Europe but a quick scout around the sites will turn up very little concrete information on specs.

Thanks for the review. A shame on WB for not including a high bit rate audio and chopping off few extras. Btw the HD DVD is AVC encoded.
I hope we start getting Fincher's films on BR soon. He's the Hitchcock of our day.
FYI - Zodiac was a digital capture, not film - so it should be a great title.
I saw it in DLP cinema and it was visually flawless.
thedeskE 05-09-08, 12:48 PM Se7en, The Game, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac
Curious Case & Rendezvous on the way
1 not quite complete BD
Finch is arguably the Kubrick of our time, and this is what we get? Sorry for the rant. I expect Zombie flics and Uwe Boll collection on BD first.

I have the HD DVD of it, and yes - it looks stunning. It's not an "eye candy" kind of film, but it is absolutely clear and pristine in appearance.
