While waiting for BR to come way down in price and have a little competition to choose, I think I need a player to fill in the blanks.

If you had to choose a player to hold you over until the price drops on BR, which one would you choose:

Tosh HD-A3
Tosh HD-A30
Pioneer DV-400
Oppo 980

This will be used with a Samsung 4065.

Or should I just keep my old Panasonic that is 4 years old?

I double posted this in the regular DVD section, but figured you guys would have a little bit more knowledge.

Thanks.

I would go for the Oppo 980 - 981

Although you can pick up a Sony S-300 for under $300 bucks now.

I would just keep the panasonic for now because all your doing is buying an upconverter with the others anyway. Just put the money away towards a BD player at a later day.

If your goal is to get a BR player in the near future, when say they hit $250 then I think you should hold off purchasing anything until around black friday or maybe the first of the year. I think we are going to see some BR players come very close to that price range at that time.

Right now you can get a refurbed player at www.secondact.com or www.refurdepot.com for around $220 or less with a coupon. It is the Sammy 1400 which has had some issues but is pretty darn stable with the new firmware.

If you want to enjoy HD movies now on the cheap a HD-A3 for around $80 and a ton of $10-15 titles could keep you busy until that BR player really calls your name but there again you are spending money that you are trying to save to get a BR player.

I think the best thing to do would either wait and save more until you can buy a Refurb player or save even more until you can buy a new BR player. Buying the Oppo now would be just throwing away $170 you could put toward a BR player later IMO.
