View Full Version : "Dawn Of The Dead" Audio Drop-out.
Catfish 03-19-08, 09:21 PM Does anyone else experience an audio drop-out at about 1:35:44 of "Dawn Of The Dead"? It's the scene where CJ shoots an LP gas tank to clear a path for the busses. The sound of the explosion moves from front to back and as it hits the back speakers the sound momentarily drops on my right rear speaker. I've ruled out a speaker problem but I can't tell if it's the disc, the audio encode, my player, receiver or if that's the way it's supposed to sound. It happens with the TrueHD track over HDMI and DD5.1 over optical at all volume levels. ...anyone?

Steve Carr 03-19-08, 11:49 PM I just picked up this disc the other day from HV. I'll check it out and let you know what I come across.
lgans316 03-19-08, 11:58 PM I sold this one sealed but have re-bought it which is yet to be delivered. I will definitely check once it's delivered.

blackssr 03-20-08, 12:19 AM I have the XA2 and watched this quite a few times. No audio dropout at all. I just checked again tonight after reading your post.

As much as a PITA it will be I think I'm going to swap out my new receiver with an older unit and see if the problem persists. I've got a couple of days to return it for a straight up exchange.

Catfish 03-21-08, 09:09 AM Well, two receivers, two players, two speakers and two connection methods later, I've come to the conclusion that the problem is with the disc or the movie itself. It didn't matter what I threw at it the drop-out was still there. Did anyone else besides blackssr get a chance to test their copy? I'm especially interested in people who bought the title recently.

Steve Carr 03-21-08, 11:24 PM Fish,
I just checked out that scene track: (1:35:44). As far as I can tell it's fine when the small LP tank explodes. The sound go's from front to back, but to me I was not looking to hear a BIG BANG.. Fish, I also noticed that the movie has D-TrueHD and DDPlus for its audio track. I was using DDPlus. I don't have an HDMI Receiver but I have my A1 hooked up both ways Optical and Analog. I like to use the Optical more because I like using my DDEX processing on my receiver.

Thanks for checking. It isn't a lack of punch thing like many were complaining about w/Transformers. It's a complete absence of sound as if the speaker is turned off and on for a fraction of a second. Having said that I think it's a problem with the disc.

It could be..
MSmith83 03-22-08, 05:51 PM I checked my disc and there's definitely no audio dropout at that point when listening to the TrueHD track. I'm using an A35 with PCM output over HDMI.
Catfish 04-25-08, 10:15 AM Here's an update on the issue in case anyone was interested.
I RMA'd the disc to Universal (a painless process BTW) and received a replacement last week. I popped the disc in, jumped to the dropout point and it is still occurring:confused:. Oh well, at least I got a free case out of the deal.

I don't have your issue perse, but I have an all around audio issue with the film, specifically the volume at which I have to watch it. On my Sammy I have to turn the volume way the hell up to 75+ just in order to hear the movie, while my friends copy plays really loud. I think it is a manufacturing glitch with this film.
