Kris Deering 03-20-08, 12:49 PM Thanks for the heads up on this. Just ordered! wired1 03-20-08, 01:54 PM Stooooopid question: Will this play on my PS3? Thanks! Giles37 03-20-08, 02:11 PM I've only read hideous reviews of this - is it really THAT bad. GamerGuyX 03-20-08, 02:28 PM Stooooopid question: Will this play on my PS3? Thanks! Yes it is a stupid question. :p Hong Kong has the same region code as the US - region A. Thats if its even region locked to begin with. wired1 03-20-08, 03:04 PM Thanks! *goes to scrub brain* mauly 03-20-08, 03:12 PM I've only read hideous reviews of this - is it really THAT bad. Where did you read those reviews?! I've heard (friends) nothing but good things about this movie, I highly doubt a Stephen Chow movie is going to be horrible (if you have an open mind that is). I would go as far as saying this is probably the E.T. of china :D:p TuenMuner 03-20-08, 05:32 PM Where did you read those reviews?! I've heard (friends) nothing but good things about this movie, I highly doubt a Stephen Chow movie is going to be horrible (if you have an open mind that is). I would go as far as saying this is probably the E.T. of china :D:p This film is so lowly rated in most of the HK and US reviews. If you can read Cantonese, check out those HK-based message forums, most HKers seemed to hate this movie. Megalith 03-20-08, 07:22 PM Saw the preview, and knew it was going to blow. wired1 03-20-08, 08:16 PM I ordered it. :) calvin c 03-20-08, 08:17 PM Saw the preview, and knew it was going to blow. I hope its not that bad! I have enjoyed all his previous releases..... MSchu18 03-20-08, 08:18 PM I love stephen chows movies... all of them, I was wondering about this last one. looked.. funny to me. we'll see. mooshoo 03-20-08, 08:45 PM Wow, that was fast release. yuyuyu98 03-20-08, 09:13 PM Sweet!! just ordered it as well! calvin c 03-20-08, 10:02 PM Sweet!! just ordered it as well! Hmmm. I ordered from yes asia and it shows march release and the other site is april (1 month difference). Wonder which is correct. DaveFi 03-21-08, 12:11 AM It got terrible reviews, I think because most expected there to be some sort of kung-fu in it, and there was none. Otherwise it was reviewed as a standard-fare "ET Clone". Donnie Eldridge 03-21-08, 11:48 PM I think I'll wait for a domestic release on this one. Big Brad 03-22-08, 02:20 AM It got terrible reviews, I think because most expected there to be some sort of kung-fu in it, and there was none. Otherwise it was reviewed as a standard-fare "ET Clone". Yeah, there is very little kung fu in it. Stephen Chow said recently in an interview that he grew up watching kung fu and science fiction movies, and that CJ7 was an exploration of the latter. It's still got his style of humor and comedy though. If you liked the humor in Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle, go into CJ7 not expecting any kung fu and you may find you like it more. -Brad rsra13 03-22-08, 02:25 AM I've liked most of the Stephen Chow's movies but saw the trailer for CJ7 last weekend and it just didn't make it for me. If it's release here, in the USA, I'd rent it and then make my mind. Andy_K 03-22-08, 03:09 AM I love Stephen Chow, all the way from his early nineties stuff like Royal Tramp through From Beijing with Love and God of Cookery and up to Shaolin Soccer and KF Hustle. I knew going in what kind of film this was. And I still was horribly disappointed. Painfully derivative, not that funny, and frankly kind of sadistic. Matt_Stevens 03-22-08, 09:36 AM He's overrated. Always has been. KUNG FU HUSTLE was the first film of his that really worked for me. Mostly he leaves me cold. I have friends in Hong Kong and they hated this film. qwerty00 03-22-08, 09:18 PM Can check it out at DDDhouse (cheaper than yesasia and sensasian) rover2002 03-22-08, 09:24 PM I've only read hideous reviews of this - is it really THAT bad. Its not enywhere near as good as "Kung Fu Hustle" or "Shaolin Soccer", id say go in with low expectations and you will be fine. :) |
