I have a 60 watt per channel tube amp, Jolida. I currently own a pair of PSB Stratus Golds that are 4ohm speakers. The sensitivity is 88db and the power handling is 250 watts rms with peak power @ 550 watts. The tube amp is just not powerful enough to drive these speakers. Im thinking bookshelf speakers with high sensitivity. Can anyone here help me with purchasing speakers in the $600 - $1000 range that would be a good match with the Jolida amp? Thanks!

Keep the Golds. Toss the Jolida.

I don't know anything about those speakers. But aquiring a new amp or receiver in that price range would be a good suggestion.
If you were interested in a pair of world class Bookshelves take a look at these:

Obviously my biased opinion, but I love this company and I doubt you will find a better product at that price point.

I plan on keeping the PSB golds, I have a solid state amp for these speakers. I just thought I would try the Jolida with these speakers but it didn't work out so well, not enough power. I mainly want the tube amp for listening to my vinyl collection with my turntable. The sound of tubes has a much warmer sound than the solid state amp. I need high sensitive monitor speakers for this I believe, 90db or better. So far I haven't found any monitor speakers with high sensitivity, maybe there isn't such a speaker? I'm greedy, I want the best of both worlds. Tube amp for analog, solid state for digital. I could have tried a hybrid amp, but I'm really not sold on them just yet. I checked out those speakers you gave the link to, they look great and good bass responce, but too low sensitivity. Thanks for the help!
Can you use a tube preamp and powered monitors? If the warmth is added by the pre-amp, a transparent set of bookshelves like the Genelec 8040 or the Mackie HR824 may work well for you.

I really didn't think of using a tube pre-amp, but that is something I am going to look into. Maybe I really should sell the Jolida and put that money on a good tube pre-amp. The Aragon 2002 amp has plenty of power for my Stratus Golds @ 300 watts per channel into 4ohms.
Thats my next question. Does anyone know of a good Tube pre-amp that would compliment what I have already?
Thanks again for your replies!
