Ok, I'm done painting and I'm currently finishing out the electrical. Next I'm planning on completing the rack in the equipment closet. One thing I need to do at some point is mount my projector and mask off (tape) the screen wall for the screen paint. My question is, Do I leave the projector mounted or do I take it back down? I'm really wanting to see what this 120" High Def picture is going to look like but I've seen to many times on this forum the comment "Don't mount the projector until the project is done". It's kinda like my new kegerator that was delivered last week, I know what happens if I plug it in and put a keg in it. ALL WORK COMES TO A HALT!!!
How did you do it?

One of the first things I did in the raw unfinished room was work in detail on the projector mount. I got the mount up before doing just about everything including electrical (to help me figure out where to run electrical). I mounted my projector several times to run it and check all details. I measured measured and measured again. Most of the time my projector was down. When the walls were thrown up and it was time to do the final mount, it came out PERFECTLY. I would suggest you put a lot of time into this.

it's true mount the PJ last.... Otherwise NOTHING will get done. I mounted my PJ on a tripod just to "test" it out and almost stopped all my work.

You will enjoy the space more when it is ALL finished.

I'm on the other end of this. It all depends on you. How dedicated you are to wanting to get things done. I left mine up the entire time, once I started seeing results, it made me more fired up to get finished. I'm still not finished, but it wasn't because I took time to watch a movie instead of putting up drywall or sumpin. If anything, it has kept me company while working.... Fire up LOTR and have it in the background while working.

Only thing is how much dust do you want going through your projector, if that bothers you, you might want to put it back up after you get your calibrations on the screen. If you're done painting then that might not be a factor either.

I mounted my PJ on a tripod just to "test" it out and almost stopped all my work.

I put my previous projector on a stack of boxes for a "quick test", with some magazines under the front half to shim it to the right angle. Nearly 4 years later I finally mounted it properly -- just in time to upgrade to a 1080p model a few weeks later.

Thankfully I at least had the foresight to use a universal mount this time, so it only took an hour or so to swap the new projector into place. Currently I have a bag around it to keep construction dust out and as an incentive to actually get the room done.
