I'm using CAPDVHS to capture an HDTV (CBS NCAA Basketball) program from my Motorola DVR via firewire. I've done this lots of times before and I've never had any major problems.

This time, the image quality is terrible! Actually, the picture looks just fine when there's not a lot of action, but when people move quickly or the camera pans quickly the image gets all jagged and wavy. (In a basketball game, this happens a lot.)

I certainly don't see this problem in the source video. There's got to be something wrong with the capture. I tried rebooting the capturing PC - problem is still there. I have not changed my CAPDVHS from the standard settings.

Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issue with CBS. I'm recording through VLC and it is recording HD programming from NBC seamlessly. CBS gets nasty jaggies throughout. Both are 1080i and both look great on the LCD TV. Even worse, Letterman looks fine on CBS late night, too. Frustrating, huh?

CBS hates their HD video being recorded as witnessed during football season. They started sending a broadcast flag over some systems that basically encrypted the firewire output for their station.

I wouldn't put it past them to have found another trick to degrade the firewire output.
