Here's my story (a little long, but I figured I would put it all just in case). I hope someone can help me. I purchased the LYR-517 (I'm pretty sure that's the model #) a little over two years ago. I had nothing but trouble out of it, but since the warranty on it was horrible (and I didn't get the extended warranty), I couldn't get it fixed. Initially, the DVD drive would not eject. I had it about 6 months at the time, and had only used it a few times. They charged me about $60 to fix it (plus shipping, I believe). The sent it back not even powering up. So I had to send it back, again. Eventually they got it back to me working. Not using it that much, another few months passed, and when I went to use it, the drive broke again. LG refused to fix it. Upset, I let the DVD recorder sit around for the past year and a half, until I finally decided to open it up the other day. It's been taking space and I figured I knew what the problem was, anyway. I took it completely apart and found that the band that turns the pulley to open the drive was broken. I figured I could probably find that band somewhere, so I could fix it, so I thought my problem might be solved. However, in the process taking it apart, I accidentally unhooked the DVD drive from the motherboard. When I tried to hook it back up, the recorder won't see it (it saw the DVD in the drive previously, but not anymore). I'm pretty sure I may have damaged the cable going from the DVD drive to the motherboard. That's the only thing I can think of. Does anyone know how to fix this? Can I get the cable to go from the motherboard to the DVD drive and the band to fix the tray pulley? Or is all this a lost cause? After spending so much money already (the unit was about $300 when I bought it...plus the repair fees), I don't want to spend much more. I'd just buy another recorder, but I'm kind of lacking money, anyway. Any help would be appreciated. At least I did get the stuck DVD out of it, though :).

Whenever I take my electronics apart to fix, I usually end up destroying it by accident (I recently destroyed a DVD player while trying to clean it and a Mattel Electronics Football game while opening up the case to see how it looked inside.) It sounds like you need to buy a new recorder. I'm assuming you are talking about the ribbon cable being pulled.

Yeah, I pulled the ribbon cable. I was hoping that I could find another ribbon cable to fix it, but no such luck, I guess.

I was trying to clean the lens of one of my DVD players by opening it up. I too pulled the ribbon cable. I couldn't get it back on since it had ripped out. That player went to the trash. It wasn't worth repairing since the player cost about $40. It would cost far much more to take it to a shop.
