hi all out there, so this is my dead end. should i go with the commercial or consumer series? i have directv so tv tuner not an issue. i also have lots n lots of speakers so thats not an issue too. i like the independancy though of the 77u. thats the only thing that stopping me from buying the UKA. money not an issue since they cost the same. what i ask is if the UKA is better from 77U and why if so.

thank you all

The 77U has the anti-reflective screen that may not appeal lots of people. I believe the 10UKA can provide a more accurate picture. Depending on seating position my vote is for the 10UAK.

Go check out the PC77u, PZ77u, and PZ77u models at circuit city, best buy, costco, etc. A lot of this comes down to your feeling about the anti-reflective screen coating of the 77 series.

I went with 50PH10uk because it looks better, I didn't want the speakers or tuner adding bulk/cost to the set, and it has better adjustments available in the user menus to dial in the picture.

Also make sure there are enough inputs on the 10UK for all of your sources, that's really the biggest potential obstacle for a complex setup.

My setup is pretty straightforward (HD cable box DVR through component, HD DVD player through HDMI, Xbox over component for now until I get a PS3 and use the 2nd HDMI input, occasional PC using the VGA input) so the 10UK works for me. And I have a Denon receiver which upconverts all sources to component so any random other things I plug in (like a video camera or old school video game system) can just go to the TV over the component. Basically everything runs through the Denon except the HDMI sources which go directly to plasma.

another thing that worries me is all the remotes i ll have. one for the tv, one for the cable, one for the receiver(for the volume).. i guess pc77u would be better for me but i just love the simplicity of looks on the uka. i ll figure it out! thanx anyway for your comments

The UKA has a far better picture quality, the Panasonic professional models are capable of Panasonics best picture that competes with the very best. The UKA is far more versatile and a much better display. Get the UKA and get yourself a good learning remote that way one remote can control your whole system.

I have one remote a URC MX-850, it controls my entire audio and video system, it controls every light in my home (Insteon lighting), my air conditioning and it can control many functions of my computer. Also it can do this from anywhere in my home without the need to point my remote anywhere.

thnx richguy, it will go in my bag of considerations! my room is 10 by 10 ft so now i am considering the 42"uka as well. the 50" might be a little too big for my small bedroom. i tried to find a store that has these 2 uka's side by side but there isnt any one.

One of the reason is because the UK series' main focus is for commercial/industrial/educational use.

I agree with Richguy , The Panny Pro panels has better PQ and has more controls vs their consumer models. I use a Logitec Harmony Remote and it controls the whole HT. Its easy to program as well. Go for the 10UKA

thank you for your responses. i have another question out of topic though. will the 50" uka show good with the non-hd direct tv? is there a way i can set up the plasma to show the sd channels better? because i own a 32" hd-sony and the way some sd channels show really sux.. so will i get good picture quality with the non-hd directv in the 50" plasma?

They do very well with SD, you will find most SD channels will have an excellent picture. I hope you will be using an HD direct TV box, you really want the HD source and it will also improve SD as well.

no i guess this is my problem that my directv box is not HD. what if i set the monitor to show 480i/p? i am sorry if my questions are rather ignorant but i am not good at this at all!

In a 10'x10' room I assume you won't be sitting more than 7-8 feet from the TV, in which case SD isn't going to look that good on a 50" screen. I mean, you're blowing up a crappy signal, and you're at a distance where you can really see the faults.

Now, I'm saying this from experience as someone who used to own a 42" consumer panny and upgraded to a 50" 10UKA. From my 7-9 foot viewing, you really notice the poor quality of SD channels more on a 50" vs. the 42" screen.

A good SD signal can look great -- the best quality digital SD channels from my cable company can look DVD quality. But some of the crappy SD broadcasts are a little scary. It doesn't bother me since I'm not a PQ obsessive type, but you just have to accept the fact that a bad SD signal will never look that good in a huge plasma in a small room.

i am now considering the sony bravia 46" KDL-46S300 instead of the uka's. does anyone have any feedbacks for this one?

I would ask questions about the Sony on the LCD board. FYI, Panny is releasing a 46" consumer model in the next couple of weeks. They are taking pre-orders now.
