I'm looking for some help with what wires to pull for a friends basement rec room. He plans to hang a FP of some sort on the wall and have his component rack off to the side. I'm trying to get as much in the wall as possible to help make sure he's covered.

My thoughts...

Power for the FP in the center of the proposed location.
2 - RG6 to main distribution point for cable and built in tuner also behind FP.
Component cables &/or HDMI from rack to behind FP.
Speaker wires for 5.1 from rack to speaker locations.
Wire for IR repeater from center channel location to rack in case of problems with side mounted compnent rack.
2 - RG6 from rack to main distribution point for sat or cable w/ tuner box.
Phone line at rack for sat.

My first questions...
Does this make sense? Any better suggestions?
Is there a simple/ok looking wallplate for all the 5.1 connections, Component, HDMI at the rack?
Is shooting for the center of the FP a good idea?
Is there a good wallplate for behind the FP?
What wire should I pull for a potential future IR repeater?

Thanks for your help,
Sail

go to the Dedicated room forum, there are a couple of threads regarding this on the front page.

What you need to do is run conduit. Then you can pull in any new wires at any time.Run the conduit now, and then just pull in what he needs when he needs it. Cabled change and go bad, so this is future proof.
