Greetings folks, been a forum junkie for some time, but this is my first post here so please be gentle.:) So far, I've noticed a good bunch here and would love to contribute too.

I have been encoding to H.264 for some time now, and have a nice collection (mostly music videos). I don't yet have a BD or PS3, but not sure which to buy, and still not sure if they will play my content.

I was wondering what other people in the same boat are doing, or have succeeded with. I would think the best route is AVCHD.

Much of my content is 640x480 SD, as well as some 720x480 encodes too. Most of it is in SD (so maybe I should use AVCSD?:p). As well, I use MP4 and AAC, but don't mind remuxing and reencoding to AC3 either. I still have many of the source AC3's "just in case".

Looking at the specs on the official AVCHD site, will it also accept a variety of resolutions on top of what it lists here?
1080/60i,1080/50i,1080/24p,720/60p,720/50p,720/24p,480/60i,576/50i
1920×1080,1440×1080,1280×720,720×480,720×576
I'm thinking those are camera presets only, but playback compliance may be more expansive including regarding interlace/progressive and fps.

In my encodes, using Nero and x264, I avoided using B-pyramids, and have kept B-frames and multiple reference frames grounded to max 3. But I hear that P4x4 will create problems in playback a feature I've used to achieve High Profile encodes.

The last thing I want to do is re-encode my stuff. The objective is to remux.

I've experimented with TSremux and TSmuxer, both work fine, but not sure if it will do the job. Seems too easy. I'm looking into H264info, a nice tool with promise, but it is still a work in progress.

I'm not interested in the logistics of disc burning for now since that's another thread, just video compliance to future-proof for now. Burners will get better and cheaper and so will accompanying software as well over time.

Any help or ideas on AVCHD compliance? Thanks in advance!

I don't know if if it will help in your purchase decision, but I know my HD Panasonic camcorder HDC-SD9 will shoot and record AVCHD straight to a flash card.

When I popped in the card using the card reader on my PS3 (60 gig model) not only did it play back the separate video files, it recognized the entire root structure allowing skipping back and forth between videos without having to move in and out of folders and starting clips manually.
