Did you read the article? This woman already won a few patent cases. Fight the Power! :D

What are the possible repurcussions of this? It sounds to me like if she wins or settles, the cost of players could rise even higher. +1 to wishing red had one.

HD DVD uses the exact same blue laser diode as Blu-ray.

This is what the patent system is really for. If they are in the wrong I hope she wins.

No.

Also, 'No' for the next lawsuit that wants to stop Blu Ray

...And, 'No' for the one after that....

Blu Ray is here and no lawyer could stop it even if it was revealed the Blu Ray platform was stolen by SOny from another party..

Injunction? Given that the woman settles her cases out of court, I wouldn't conclude that there's an injuction coming. In fact, I'd conclude the opposite.

Yeah if she does win I do hope they work it out, I take that fact for granted I guess. I couldn't see any other outcome. Blu-Ray itself should come out of this either way.

Thanks, stupid me... well hopefully this thing has no effect on the consumer.

Like a huge percentage of similar cases this will be settled out of court and Granny will be very very rich. I guess she earned it to be honest.

Unfortunately, part of that settlement bill will be paid by us as consumers. It won't be transferred directly to us in the form of higher prices, but as a slowdown in the price reduction curve of a (still relatively) new technology.

The good news is that blu-ray is here to stay. It won't go away.

You just have to love that she waited a few years to decide to file this lawsuit. I guess she wanted to make sure she would get a large sum of cash if she could pull it off. I do not know all the facts but I feel she is trolling for cash.

Just waited for the winner before pouncing, that's all.

As this Engadget article (http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/21/little-old-lady-to-take-down-sony-samsung-nokia-and-everyone-e/) explains this lawsuit is about more than blue laser diodes since she is claiming to have a patent on the LED diode and is suing LED makers as well.

She is most likely all washed up and has no ideas anymore and is looking to money from any source she can at what ever cost.
