I've currently got an old 2.1 set up -- probably 10 years old:

Yamaha RX-V493 (no 5.1)
Polk Audio RT12 fronts and a Polk Audio center (no model #, probably $300 new)

I want to refresh this, but need some advice. I *think* I want a Denon AVR-3808CI receiver. I would appreciate your guys' input on that. Not sure I need to lay out all that money for it, but I like the number of HDMI inputs.

The question I have is what speakers to pair with it. Are my old speakers too crappy to pair with a mama like the AVR-3808CI?

Also, I want to do wall mounted fronts and rears if you all can recommend some that sound great. Am I sacrificing any sound by doing this?

Thanks for your help!

I've found that with speakers, or at least the way I see it, you're gonna get a biased opinion on what that particular person has purchased. There are so many great options. I like my speakers, but I haven't sat in a theater with others in the same setting so it's hard to say what is best. Cost vs. performance

Probably better to hit the speaker-receiver area in the avs forum. If you have a receiver you think you want, try looking at what other people in those forums have paired with that receiver. There are usually large threads dedicated to a popular receiver.
