May I just say that the sonics on this DVD are awesome. The video style may not be for everyone, but the DTS 4.1 (it shows up as 5.1, but there is rarely anything in the center channel) track is very well recorded and mixed.

If you are a fan, you have it already, but even if you're not - rent it sometime just for a listen.

Yeah, I bought this awhile ago, I agree it's great.

Unlike DD that is scalable in number of channels DTS is fixed at 5.1 channels (or 6.1).

ok, well - the track is a DTS 5.1 track, just that Steven Wilson put very little in the center channel. The surrounds however are well occupied by Richard Barbieri's swirling keyboards. Its a great surround experience.

I especially like the bass line on Hate Song. It is a great demo song to introduce people to the band. Great DVD. I also should mention Blackfield Live in New York, another great live concert dvd

scooterdog, I'm a recent fan of Blackfield. I find it a more "pop music" version of Porcupine Tree. Whats your opinion and where can I find this disc?

Amazon. Currently $20.99. You may find it cheaper elsewhere.

Well worth it. Gotta love Aviv and the glitter... ;)

As stated Amazon.

Yes there are many songs that are more POP oriented and I think that has to do more with Aviv. However, there are several songs that are a lot darker especially on Blackfield II.

Hey and whats up with Aviv and taking his shirt off. The man is bony as hell.

Shinksma, how did you like the cover version SW did of "Thank You" by Alanis Morrison.
I thought it was brilliant!

that spoilt it a bit for me. :p

nothing to do with the SQ - which is excellent and the songs which are good. I just felt its too early in Blackfield's career to release a live DVD from a pool of 2 albums

I thought it was brilliant!During the short preview tour of FOABP where the first half was the new stuff (unreleased) there was an amp malfunction...took about 15 minutes to straighten out. SW took out his acoustic and sang and played a few of tunes. The AM cover was brilliant and totally surprised everybody. "Even Less" was pretty good too. Unfortunately, the venue sucked, square room with tons of cancellation and distortion...oh well.

Yeah, it re-defined the song for me. AM's version of it is just a little too whiny, plus I can't get the image of her from the video out of my head when I hear her sing it (she's blurred-out stark naked in the video - just throws me off a bit).

All his cover versions are excellent. I bought Momus' "hits" 2-CD set after hearing SW's cover of Guitar Lesson. Never would have heard the artist otherwise.

That's not actually correct.
If I encode a DTS 4.0 or a DTS 4.1 mix to .dts or .cpt (stock DTS for DVD-Video format) off the Nuendo DDE, it encodes just the used channels.
Also, if I use the DTS-HD MAS encoder to encode a 4.1 or a 4.0, it shows the correct channel count too.
DTS is fully scalable from mono to 6.1 on DVD-Video, and so far up to 7.1 for Blu Ray or MAS/Desktop.

For those of you that love this DVD as much as I do, you can download the entire concert in lossless FLAC from the Porcupine Tree website to make your own 2-disc CD set from. Sounds amazing on CD as well and well worth the coin.

I really wish more bands were like PT in supporting their releases and giving you TONS of content. Kudos to them on one spectacular release after another.

I'm assuming the FLAC downloads are not surround since it is not mentioned in the descriptions?

Unfortunately no. But this is a great way to be able to take advantage of the outstanding audio quality of the performance in your car or otherwise. The 2-channel FLAC download sounds incredible as well.

Thanks for the quick response. Since my car has surround sound capability I'm always looking for DVD-A's or surround music I can burn to one for just that reason.

If you have a DVD player in your car one can just rip the concert with either of the soundtrack options, and you're done. I did with the 2ch LPCM, even though I can play DTS in my truck, but my rear speakers are still the factory crap that came with it, so I use the 2ch options for now. Anyway the 2 ch LPCM would be identical to the flac download, I'm sure.

" Anyway the 2 ch LPCM would be identical to the flac download, I'm sure. "

Actually , Sw felt the dvd Lpcm was a little too compressed and that was why he wanted to correct it on the download .
