Just curious ... is there ANY future for HD-DVD format?

Apparently Toshiba says no ... could it turn into something else, like a PC standard for data backups?

With Serenity only on HD-DVD, i dont see me getting rid of my player for a while, but what if it breaks?

Is there ANY future for HD DVD?

Toshiba's gone...
All of the major studios are gone...

The answer would be no.

It's the ONLY finished, worldwide high-definition standard that does not mandate the use of the consumer-rights trashing AACS so the I can imagine it's perfect for low-cost, low-run (thousands range) indie productions.

Yes and no

As in are you going to see HD DVD movies try to make a come back? No

Could the HD DVD technology be used elsewhere for other stuff? Possibly

You will see parts of what HD DVD had, in stuff like BR, and DVD in the future though, so no matter what you buy, you will see parts of what HD DVD brought to the market.

So i see any HD DVD in any shape or form coming back...nah

No future. Get the players and movies while they last. Can't beat the pricing for the video quality.
