Hello. I am putting together a home theater for my parents but don't really know too much about it. Basically, I look for the highly rated items on cnet, then google those items. Many hits lead me to this forum, so I thought I might as well ask you guys directly about it. Our budget is $5000. The components I think will be the best are:

BenQ W10000 projector
Aluminum ceiling mount off eBay
Soundmatters MainstageHD virtual surround system (they want a single-speaker system)
PS3 (40 GB)
Carada Criterion 2.35:1 screen

I know that the PS3 does not upscale to 1080p, but I think the BenQ projector does? Or is that only handled by the DVD player? Anyway, if anyone has any comments on this system, I would greatly appreciate hearing them. Thank you!

you should check the 2:35 forum for information on this format. Lots of good info there. You may need an anamorphic lens or zoom in and out to get the desired 2:35 format you are looking for.

If your parents do more TV watching than movie watching a 16:9 screen set up may be a better choice.

First off check out ProjectorPeople for pricing on your pj, you may also get a mount thrown in. Also where did you hear that the PS3 doesn't upscale to 1080p?

The PS3 does upscale and it does a really good job at it.

Okay, thanks guys for that info. After 170 views and nobody has said "Wait! Don't buy X!" so I should be happy. Although I did end up going with the Sony VRL-VM40 instead of the BenQ because the BenQ was too expensive. I must have read that the PS3 doesn't upscale in one of the customer reviews for the PS3 on amazon.

Also, thanks for that projectorpeople website, I haven't ordered the screen yet and they seem to have better prices than the Carada website.

Thanks again!
