I am having a problem with static electricity in my theater area. My current configuration is as follows:

Mitsubishi HC 4900
Denon 3806
Samsung HD 850 DVD
Sci Atl cable box
Belkin Pure AV Power Conditioner
Harmony 1000

When first entering the room and turning everything on there is no problem. Static seems to happen only after being in the room and watching something. When I turn off the equipment and place the remote is it's cradle, I get a static discharge. Also happens when I touch any piece of metal in the system, i.e. change a DVD etc. I have not had this problem in the past in this room with my old setup. This new setup was finished recently so I'm wondering if it could be an electrical problem? All the outlets that the equipment is plugged into is wiring from the old setup. There are no new outlets added.

On a side note, I live in the Northeast. It's still winter up here and we always have a problem with static electricity this time of year due to the dryness of the air. It just seems to be much worse now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Get a humidifier.

Here's an old trick if you have carpet or fabric chairs.

Get a cheap spray bottle, put in a capful of fabric softener, fill with water, and spray lightly on the carpet or chairs. That should take care of your problem, and it smells nice, too. Repeat if/when the static returns.

Be careful, though. It can be slippery when wet.
