Picture a room with corners A, B, C, D.

In corner a is a really nice TV with cabinet, receiver, fronts, center, etc...

In corner B (go clockwise) there is surround sound speaker in the ceiling.

In corner C there is a surround sound speaker in the ceiling.

In corner D there is nothing.

This is bugging me that my speakers arent symmetrical.

So I came up with this idea...

Put another surround in the ceiling in corner D. This way I'll be symmetrical and will have 6.1 sound.

Here's the problem. I live in a 2 story home. if I cut a hole in the ceiling, how do I get it to a wall do drop down the stud cavity to run across my basement ceiling back ina wall to the receiver.

Is it possible? Or do I have to cut ope my wall/ceiling and patch later?

Thanks

I thought I'd reply for those interested in ever doing this. First of all - not easy but possible.

You have to have a right angle drill.

1. Cut speaker hole in ceiling. Make sure you are between joists. You can test with small nails first.

2. The hole needs to be close to a wall - no further than 1 1/2 feet away. Reach in the hole and find the drywall. Then reach a little further and you will feel a sideways 2 x 4. This is what you drill through with the right angle drill. You will end up going through 2 of these - a total of 3 inches. Try to drill straight.

3. Drop a chain or weighted string down the hole, but anchor it where the speaker will go.. You will hear it drop.

4. The remove the piece of baseboard where the weight landed.

5. Drill a hole into the drywall and find the chain/string. Then use a long drill bit and drill into the basement.

6. Go in the basement and tape the chain/string to speaker wire.

7. Go to the hole in the ceiling and carefully pull the chain/string up the wall.

8. That's it!

9. If I did it - anyone can.

Now my question for all of you - Now that I did this, I have three surrounds (and a really good receiver that plays all formats - it's new). Will all speakers produce sound when I play a movie, listen to music?

Thanks
