View Full Version : Cable box resets EVERY DAY!

I am extremely annoyed...I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2200 and Time Warner cable, and for some reason the box is automatically resetting itself DAILY. It never occurs at the same time, but it always occurs the same way: the box is turned ON, and at any given moment the image on screen will freeze up, then the box will shut off, reset, and turn itself back on about 5 to 7 minutes later. It doesn't matter how long the box has been on for....it's happened if it's only been for about 2 or 3 minutes...and on for 2 or 3 hours. It also doesn't matter what channel I'm watching, be it a local station, a specialty network, etc. - altho it's more likely to happen when tuned to an On-Demand channel.

The box is in a well-ventilated area, and is on top of my DVD-recorder (which is where the techie put it when they installed it).

I've already had the cable box replaced once in the past few months....I have to do so at least twice a year in order to keep the resets to a minimum....but I'm just wondering WHY this happens EVERY DAY? Is it the signal, or the box? And has anyone else had this problem? I'm getting really sick of this occurrence.

Thanx!

Sounds like a high BER on the out of band data carrier is causing the box to lock up the OS.

HAve you tried power cycling the box or calling Tech to give it a fresh Init?

bfoster thanx for the info!

rantanamo, I'm not tech savvy regarding cable boxes, so I don't know how to do power cycling. But I'll give it a try.

I've called tech support many times about this, since it's been an ongoing problem for a while now. Their solution to the problem is always to replace the box, which I've done. This is about my 4th one in the last couple of years. But if the box is resetting on a daily basis, it can't be the box's fault...or can it?
