I just have some questions about my htr6060 and best setup. I like to think I fairly knowledgeable of home theater but this is my first REALLY nice receiver.
Here's my setup as of right now, I have an older 46 Sony projection TV that has a DVI and component plugs. I have my comcast box ran to the TV with component vid & optical for sound and my PS3 is component vid & analog sound and my DVD component vid & optical sound. All my sound,PS3,and DVD player are run through the htr6060 with component vid going to the TV. Oh and I only have 5.1 KLH surround sound speakers for now.
I've seen cables that I are DVI to HDMI and HDMI adapters to DVI. Are they any good and will they work with my setup ro just wait till I get a newer TV.
What's the best sound setting to use for gaming and movies? By that I mean all the different surround setting like DTS, enhancer, pure direct, dloby. I just don't understand all the differences.
Sorry about all the questions, this is just my first receiver with all these options and it's a little overwhelming. As of right now it sounds great just looking for improvements.
Thanks for any help in advance!

Not to nitpick, but it would be a lot easier to answer your questions if you numbered them. This way, people could pick and choose which questions they could help you with.
Did it help any that I broke it up a little and I tried to be more specific.

I'd run HDMI from your components to the receiver. With the PS3, HDMI will give you lossless audio from Blu-ray discs (TrueHD and uncompressed 5.1 tracks). With the Comcast box, there's no audio advantage to HDMI and you could use optical instead. But a single HDMI connection is easier.
I've seen cables that I are DVI to HDMI and HDMI adapters to DVI. Are they any good and will they work with my setup ro just wait till I get a newer TV.Yes, HDMi-DVI works just fine and is precisely what you need. If you run HDMI from the PS3 and Comcast box to the receiver, you will need to use the HDMI output from the receiver to the TV. (You can't down convert from HDMI to component for copy-protection reasons.) So, an HDMI-DVI cable is in order from the receiver to the TV.

Audio is much more complicated than video, for the most part. Dolby Digital and DTS are the two 5.1 digital schemes used on movies to create surround sound. Your receiver probably has an "auto" type setting that will look for either one of those codecs, whichever one you choose in the Language or Audio menu on the disc movie menu. DD and DTS are about the same, although some think DTS sounds a little better. Movies with DTS tracks are pretty rare. Nearly all movies have DD sound tracks.
The rest of the other audio settings are mostly ways to create surround sound from stereo sources. Dolby ProLogicII (PLII) does a good job of creating center and surround channels from a stereo source. It's a way to get music CDs in surround, for example. But, these settings are generally of no use on movies and other material that is already encoded in 5.1.
If you use HDMI from your PS3 to get lossless audio, there are some other settings you will need to be concerned about. Lossless audio is worth the effort. But, you may want to get the basic DD and DTS set ups done first and then come back to the lossless stuff later.
I'm no help on games, but the principles are the same.
Sorry it took so long to respond, I recently found out my wife's pregnant! Any thanks for the info, I'll be ordering some new cables this weekend. Any suggestions on good brands of cables but nothing to expensive. I'm told I can't spend a lot since theres a baby on the way.

Get them from monoprice. They have excellent cables at reasonable prices. Monoprice is a forum sponsor and there's a link to their website at the top of this page.
Congratulations on the baby.
Thanks, I just ordered some cables. Thanks on the pregnancy.
