I have a Samsung DVD-R135 that ever since we went to Daylight Savings time the clock will not stay set. I have tried setting everything to auto also tried to set it to PBS channel 21 and also tried to set manually. It will stay on for a short while and then it loses an hour again. I press enter whenever I set anything. I do shut recorder off when not in use, but the clock stays on. This is getting very frustrating as i record a lot and can not figure out how to correct this problem. I have also unplugged, hoping it would factory reset.

You said you set the clock manually. That's the first step. Now see if you can find a setting for Daylight Saving Time (DST) or possibly called Summer Time. Turn that OFF also.

Under manual there is no setting for Daylight S Time. By the way I had just manually set the clock before posting here and it was back an hour again. I had also set everything to Auto under Autmatic set and instead of auto for channel it was back to 21. I did go in there just now and turn daylite off and put central for TZ. Also went to manual and set the correct time again.

I used to have the Samsung R-135, and I used to get this exact same bug at around the time change in the spring and fall. What I used to do was to trick it by by turning daylight savings time "off", and selecting the Atlantic time zone (I live in the eastern time zone).

It sounds like you need to turn off automatic setting. i.e. it's scanning OTA or on the channels for the time signal.

I have it on Manual. I thought I had it yesterday after I reset the DVD when it stayed on time all day and then it jumped back again last night I then went to the set time on the TV and changed that to manual also. It is still correct this morning. I'm about ready to give up.

Well another day and went to check the recorder and yep, it lost an hour. This is getting ridicules. I don't know what to check anymore. I also have a VHS connected so I can record 2 channels if need be and that is just fine. So what is the problem?
I am on Charter cable so even if it were to scan for time why isn't it picking up local time? Why is it scanning when everything is on manual?

I might have your answer!

I got the R135 manual and on pp 31/32 it describes clock setting procedures. Apparently, when you first plug it in, the Auto Clock settings will be defaulted to "Automatic" and will start operating automatically IF YOU HAVE A SIGNAL/COAX COMING INTO THE 135.

This is key cuz it says that only if you can't set the clock for automatic, such as if the 135 is installed behind a cable box, which blocks the incoming signal, then you should "SET THE CLOCK MANUALLY."

So, I believe that means you need to unplug all inputs to the 135, do a reset, then turn the 135 back on with no inputs so it forces a Manual Clock set.

Go to pg 32 and set clock manually.

Then plug coax back in while unit is still on and hope it doesn't take the coax being connected as a prompt to set the clock automatically again!?

I will see if I can figure out how to unplug everything. I know it seems to fall back that hour at midnight as I just checked and it was on all day and evening yesterday.

A good indication that it's on auto-clock setting and looking for the midnight update. Sure seems like the FW in your unit isn't set for the new DST rules and there's a "conflict" that disrupts the many functions of a DVDR that rely on a firm time-tracking system.

I posted on this topic before, and that was my conclusion also. I thought that the Samsung made some kind of internal calculation of when to flip over to DST under the old rules. The new rules seems to confuse it. No matter what I did, set it to manual or automatic, it would always go back one hour. It was quite maddening.

A test of this hypothesis would be so see if the problem clears up after the first Sunday in April (under the old rules). When I had my Samsung, I think that is what happened. But for now, have you tried my previous suggestion? Tell the Samsung you are in a time zone one hour ahead? This is under the philosophy of "if you can't beat, it join it."

I disconnected the coaxil and reset like you suggested. I know when you press the channel up button that is suppose to reset to factory. Usually you can feel it setting by putting her hand on top of DVD, didn't feel it this time.

I really think it's the DST that is screwing it up. This is the first year we have DST 3 weeks early. I would of thought that setting it to Auto would of rectified that, but it didn't. This coming Sun is when the normal daylite saving would of started, so we will see what happens. Do you know how to get an update for the 135 or if it can even be done?

Right now Coax is uplugged and I have even unplugged from electric outlet. I would like it to go to ----------and then let me reset manually. I'll just let it sit for awhile.

Appears to be nothing FW related online, which caused several people to complain in their reviews. It might be a unit built by someone else (Chinese or Malaysian designer/manufacturer) and FW updates were not part of the deal?

Thanks, I thought I missed something. Just went and after getting -------for the time went and manual set it. Won't know until tomorrow morning wether this works or not. Also put in a complaint to Samsung. We shall see. Hate to say it but I'm stubborn when things don't work the way they should. I'm not afraid to bet that this will be just fine afte Sun.

While coax was unplugged and you reset the clock manually, did you happen to see if the automatic settings had an option for "OFF"?

That's what I was hoping for a way to just shut the auto off. Just channel set or auto, time central etc. or auto and DST auto, on or off. I have it set to off hoping that would of taken care of it. It didn't. Why would they even give you a choice of Auto or manual when you can't stop the auto?

You can set your unit for DST Off, but whatever you're connected to can be sending a time signal based on different rules, esp. a cable or sat box that they regularly upload FW updates, which would include the new DST rules.

If you could just set your auto-clock to OFF, that would help a lot. Odd that they let you turn DST off but not auto-clock.

As I said above, your unit appears to be one that auto-sets its clock to auto once it gets an input coax signal. That's why I was hoping you could set and MAINTAIN a manual clock setting if you set it manually with coax disconnected.

Has this already NOT worked, or are you still waiting for tomorrow to see?
