I hate asking this question as I have read all the wonderful posts and information here on the Phillips 3575H, but as I am unfortunately not tech savy, I am still not clear about being able to get all my Direct TV (including paid for HBO) with the 3575H. I would have my Direct TV satalite box to plug it into the 3575H. However when I read about getting the chanels, it says 1-123, and as any of you know if you have Direct TV, most of the channels are between 22 to 575.

So what I am trying to get clear in my mind before plumking down $300 at Wall Mart, is will I be able to get these prescribed Direct TV higher chanels with this recorder, and will it be easy or a hassle for a novice?

They're $199 at the Philips Outlet.

With ANY DVDR, you can't tune satellite channels directly, thru the DVDR's tuner. You'll have to connect one of the D*TV's line outputs to a line input on the 3575.

With that connection, from what I've read, many or most people with D*TV can record the "normal" channels they pay for in their basic suibscription (e.g., HBO), but some or many can't record extra-cost channels, such as PPV or VOD.

Here's a post on setting the 3575 up with all sources, and maybe it's be some help? (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=12298425&postcount=11) From that page, you could explore all 25 subjects covered in that thread, if interested. The main page with the list of subjects also has some links to the Philips stores for NEW and "Factory Refreshed" units, which are $199 as rmae said.

I have Directv and use a Magnavox to record programming. No problems recording HBO, etc. You connect your Directv receiver to one of the inputs on the DVD and change channels on the receiver, not on the recorder.
