I just purchased this unit and found that during the setup, when I scan for channels it is only finding the channel I am tuned to (004) to get the signal from my cable box.

My cable is running into my SA Explorer 3250HD hi def cable box, then into my Philips, then to my TV. I am also using the RCA's from the cable box to the Philips and the same to my TV.

As it stands right now, I have to tune the channel I want to record on my cable box, which is fine if I am using manual record or only want to time record one channel/event. But if I want to time record multiple events on different channels I am out of luck.

Am I doing something wrong or is my Philips unit defective? Also, another pet peeve is that I have to push each button twice on the remote for anything to happen.

Don't think it's defective, just try setting up as described in this post, which is for a Philips 3575 but should be same. (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=12298409&postcount=10)

Philips' response to button presses is a few milliseconds slower than some.

Thanks wajo, that worked. I spent quite a bit of time reading your posts and appreciate all your time and energy contributed. I do not consider myself "technically challenged" as I have been at this for years (since setting up my Sony Betamax to run audio through my stereo receiver), however, with each new piece of "tech" the stakes get higher. And it doesn't help when the manual is totally out to lunch.

Both sets of instructions (quick start and manual) show the cable running from the STB to DVDR then to TV. I guess my only mistake was blindly following this when I knew, logically, that scanning for channels needed a direct cable feed.

Thanks again.

P.S. Regarding the remote...I think the remote is not the correct one for this model as I definitely have to press each button twice and it also looks different than the one pictured in the mamual. Then again, perhaps I have the incorrect manual. Hopefully, I can get it married up to my Hamony 880 anyway and I won't need to use it.
