We have had this recorder for a couple of years with no probs then suddenly it went all weird while playing an exercise DVD and now it won't play or record anything and we are getting a code R038 on the recorders window? Can anyone advise please??

Perhaps your DVD drive just needs cleaning of the rubber and plastic parts of the spindle and hub. Here is a link to that information:
