I work for a systems integrator and we have a friend who is building a custom home. He asked us to wire the house with everything possible.
Here is the house layout.
1. Large closet where all cables will land. (In living room)
2. Living Room with TV on wall and 5.1 audio
3. Game Room with TV on wall and 4 speakers
4. Theater Room with TV on wall and 5.1 audio
5. Kitchen with TV in corner and 4 speakers
6. Master Bedroom with TV on wall and 5.1 audio
7. Master Bathroom with TV above bath tub and 2 speakers
8. 3 Bedrooms with TV's on wall.
9. Outside patio and pool area.
So far we wired it as follows:
1. Living Room - 1 HDMI from TV to cabinet, 2 Cat5e and 2 Coax wired to closet. Speakers to closet.
2. Kitchen - 1 Cat5e, Coax to TV from closet. Speakers to closet.
3. Game Room - 2 Cat5 and 1 Coax from closet. HDMI from TV to cabinet in same room. Speakers to cabinet.
4. Theater Room - 2 Cat5e and 1 Coax from closet. HDMI from TV to cabinet. Speakers to cabinet.
5. Master Bedroom - 2 Cat5e and 2 Coax from closet. HDMI from TV to cabinet. Speakers to cabinet.
6. Master Bathroom - 1 Coax and 1 Cat5e to Master Bedroom cabinet. HDMI from TV to cabinet. Speakers to master bedroom cabinet.
7. 3 Bedrooms - 2 Cat5e and Coax from closet. HDMI from TV to cabinet. no speakers.
8. Outside patio and pool area - 3 speakers cables to closet.
9. 3 Coax cables from backside of house to closet for Dishes.
This is all prewired as well as other cat5e going all over the house for different thing. Remember this closet will house the patch panel, switches, etc.
Well after meeting with the owner today he said he doesn't want the speakers to be terminated in each room and that everything should go back to the closet. Also he doesn't want anything in the rooms except for the actual speakers and TV. Everything should be run from closet. He wants all the Satellite signals and audio signals to come from this closet. We are trying to figure out what peoples opinions are on this. Like he wants DVD players, game consoles, etc all to be in this closet and signals sent to TV's in other parts of the house.
So my company is told we should either run some sort of conduit from the closet to each location to run HDMI or other cables to the TV's. Or what my boss suggested was to run 3 more Cat5e cables to each location so that we can use those HDMI to Cat5e converters to run the signal.
I was under the assumption that each room was going to have it's own technology and you can just do whatever you wanted to within the room. Now I understand the speakers outside and the ones in the kitchen and the ones in the game room can have the signals come from the closet that way if there is a party and you want the same music playing in all the rooms it would be that way.
Anyone that wants to take a stab at it for a better solution that we can present to the owner would be appreciated. I have thought of a couple other solutions as well but want to see what the brains in cyberspace think.
Thanks
Brad
