My installer said I only have 1 line going into my TV and Sat. needs two lines for the DVR to record and watch another program. Is this true? I had to run another line through my Condo. He said Comcast works dif because cable can spilt lines? True or not?

Yeah same here. That's terribly disappointing that Sat can't do that.

Actually it can. Dish's HDDVRs (and SD for that matter) has been single line capable for quite a while. DirecTV is testing their solution now. It is just a matter of time. I only have 1 line from the switch to each of my DVRs with DISH.

Ah! That's good news. Hopefully they'll correct this very soon...Because I'm not about to string another line through my Condo.

According to http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/128920-does-directtv-have-any-receivers-compare.html you need SWM. You might try asking DirecTV to come install it. It is worth a try anyway. Alternately, you could DIY it:

$400 bucks. Man, thats steep.

Will this one work the same way? All I need is to spilt one cable to two.

DIRECTV-Approved SWM Splitter (1x2)
Requires SWM multiswitch. Splits single line from SWM into two. DIRECTV approved. One input, two outputs.
$12.00 - FREE GROUND SHIPPING

As long as you have the $400 switch, yes. Your post mentions that it requires the SWM Multiswitch. Probably better to let DirecTV supply it IMHO.

Personally, despite living in an apartment, I have no beef with having the four lines coming in that I currently do. That's what spackle and paint are for. ;)

DirecTV won't supply the SWM, it is not in general availability. There are a few areas where the installers are doing field trials, but most of the supply is going to the MDU (Multi Dwelling Unit) suppliers. The SWMs you see on the market ($300 upwards) are "leaking" out of the MDU pipeline.
