Hello !

I have a problem with my HX900.

The recorder copying a 90 minutes title without an error on DVD+R. But if I go to the DVD Titlelist, the copyed title is invisible. If (sometimes) visable, the pre-view picture will not be loaded. The availiable capazity of the DVD is (correct) reduced by the copyed title volume. The option-menu "finalize" isn't available. PLAY-Function will be aborted instantly.

I tryed other DVD+R same manufacture. I tryed DVD+R from a different manufacture. I tryed DVD-R. A cleaning CD. All this without a diagnostic.

DVD-RW VR-Mode and DVD+RW works still fine.

Finalized DVD+R in stock will be played without an error, same with commercial DVDs.

May it caused by low laserpower? Is it true, that the ness laserpower to write a DVD+/-R is higher than the ness laserpower to write a DVD+/-RW rewriteable? If yes, is the laserpower adjustable? Know anybody the rgiht way to adjust the laser? Is it a case for service?

Thx and Bye.

No, laser power is determined by 15 tests during loading on each DVDR every time an unfinalized disc is inserted (called "Power Calibration"). Tests are done in a reserved area near the hub and results are stored in a Power Calibration Area (PCA). Those tests determine the laser power needed to properly burn that particular disc. Tests may also be done as the burn progresses.

So, you can't adjust laser power, but your laser could be failing since playing DVDs takes less laser power. Odd also that it still burns -RW/+RW OK.

Maybe try one or more other -R/+R discs from other mfgrs, esp. Verbatim. If Verbatim, don't work, the burner may well be the problem?

Another thing might be your FW. If your unit is sort of old, it may not have the FW instructions needed to burn today's faster DVD media. You could search for updated FW and install it if available, since most FW is produced for just that reason... to keep up with newly developed media.

... Type is Verbatim DVD+R 1-16x 50pices spindle. The HX900 write approx 45 DVDs correct. Now the error is occured with the all the rest of them. The same error with _one_ other manufacture. I have no more others to try ...

Yes, I know and unterstand. But: i don't know a way to check the concrete firmware version in _this_ HX900. And there's no known way, that customers update the SONY firmware by themself.

Have you any idea about 1) to 3) ?
Thx.
