I don't really see any reason for me not to and it may also show support for the format. I believe all PS3s play BDs unless I'm mistaken.

While a bit ineloquently stated, I believe he is just wondering how many people will buy the BD version of Gran Tourismo 5: Prologue as opposed to the version offered on the PSN, a la Warhawk.

While I disagree with the premise that it shows support for the format, as it's not like there's a DVD based version, the basic gist of the inquiry is sound.

And, yes--all PS3s can play BDs.

Have you checked to make sure yours plays BDs?

I might buy this game on BD only because I can then possibly sell it at some point down the line

I think the disk version is inferior to the psn version. here's why...
With everything on the hard drive I can switch between games instantly without getting off my arse and swapping out game discs.
I think that's awesome!

I suppose I didn't phrase my thread topic correctly. I have a 60 GIG PS3 and it plays BDs and I bought it mainly for that purpose. The BD version has some footage and extras I believe and it doesn't cost any more.

I seriously doubt I buy the DL version. If they do the same crap they did to warhawk. If you have more than 1 PS3.. BD version is the only way to go. The warhawk DL version Cripples the game to one user..IMHO that Sucks

I'm getting the impression that the OP doesn't realize that ALL PS3 games are on BD.

But they are. GT5P being on bluray is no different than any other PS3 game being on BD.

And yes, all PS3s have bluray drives and play BD. They have to in order to play the PS3 games :)

Anyway, back on topic...

I'll buy the disc if I make it to the store before I pull the trigger on the PSN. Only because I want the extra content.

When I played the GT5 demo, it seemed as if in every turn the car either scidded out or came to a virtual stop. Is it just really hard to control or is it me. Wasn't much fun.

Is there info out about the PSN download? Will it be the same price? Are there performance differences?

I'd consider the download if the load times are shorter than the BD version, assuming everything else is the same.

It's not an arcade racer. If you come into a corner too hot you will lose control and/or your speed will be scrubbed.

What GT5 demo? If you are talking about the Japan Demo of Prologue. It's just you. I had none of those problems. There was one car that didnt handle well, but it was just the car (Subaru Impreza) All the others were predictable and drove well...IMO

I stopped playing car racing games where the cars are impervious to damage back in the N.E.S. days.

I havent looked in a while. But I think they took it down, and arent supporting it anymore....ie no download content for GT TV.etc.

Because crashing is what a sim racing game is all about ;)

While I agree that adding crash details would be nice (like if you rub up against something... your body panels show scratches)... it's not needed. I'm more more interested in the actual racing. Plus... if you really like a sim racing game you're going to play from the cockpit view anyways... so damage showing on your car is a mute point.

To the OP, I'm buying the BD. I downloaded warhawk but when I changed my PSN name I could no longer play it with my new name.

I haven't decided yet if I'm even going to get this game, but if I do I would clearly buy the disk rather than download it.

I mean, once the full version comes out, why would anyone want to keep Prologue? I'd rather have the disk to sell and get some of my money back.

As long as there is physical media available, I will purchase that. Although the best of both worlds would be a disc that would install on the PS3 so I wouldn't have to swap discs.

The Warhawk BD installed the game onto your hard drive. You just needed the BD to start the game and then you could eject the disc and put in another disc if you wanted to.

I am guessing the GT5P BD will do the dame thing.

I will be getting the disc version as well.

I think that at least the option to have crash damage should be available. For example, Forza 2 has full simulation options, with tire wear, temperature sensors, and full damage. The amount of damage will determine the function of the car (cosmetic damage, no big deal, but if you hit a fender and a spoiler comes loose, it directly affects handling, top speed, etc. Many time after a 'bump/crash' the alignment is so bad you have to make a pit stop to 'repair' some of the damage. Similarly, smoke ends up coming out of a damaged car, if there is engine damage thus obscuring the rear cars a bit. There is no way to wina race with a damaged vehicle. If you do not want simulation damage, you can turn it off and the car handles like new, even with crashes.

I too will only buy the disc version, a) because of habit, b) because of portability, and c) potential for resale. That being said, I cannot get myself to spend $40 for the prologue, and then $60 for the full game. Only way I get the full version is if they include a racing wheel or something (kind of like adding hardwrae in Rock Band/ GH).

That actually brings up the question... you think? Who's going to want GTP when the full game is out?

I'll sell mine about a month before the full game comes out.

I think my copy will sell for about $20 at that point. If you wait until GT5 comes out then your GTP may only be worth $5 or so (if anything really).

The developer has crash/cosmetic damage on their to-do list and they say it may be included in the final product. My best guess is it won't be. We'll have to wait until GT6 arrives for something like that.

From the reading I've been doing the developer is pretty anal about making everything perfect. Every car, inside and out, will look like it does and handle like it does in real life. That's pretty cool IMHO. Take that it has what? 600 or so cars in the final version? Each car would need to have damage written into the design... no easy task. I never played Forza or Forza 2... but I'm assuming they don't have anywhere near as many realistic cars as GT5 has planned.

Just buy the GTP now and sell it a few months before GT5. You'll get back at least $20... so you're only out $20 or less for a year or so of gaming.

The developer said in a recent interview that damage is coming "very, very soon". Perhaps that means a Prologue patch? In any case, GT5 will definitely have it. The developer said he is just trying to convince all of the car makers to allow permission to include it in GT (most have agreed). That is the only hold up.

On topic, I'm buying the dload version now that my 320GB hard drive is installed.

I'll probably dump it at GS for $10 or whatever. it's actually not that big of a deal really. I just prefer having disks.

I bought the disk version of warhawk as well.

Despite having played it for about 4 months now (I have the Japanese Version)...I might go ahead and buy the American version so I can access my garage in the full version.

As far as I know everything you unlock in the Prologue carries over to the full version.

Another game I think you all might want to check out is Grid. From the guys that created the TOCA series of racing games...and its going to be out in June.

What's funny is, despite all of the complaints about Prologue being "just a demo," Grid will actually feature fewer cars than Prologue does. :D

That said, Grid does look like it might be fun. :)
