Hi

Mostly due to asthetic reasons, I added a 3rd surround speaker. I now have 2 fronts, 1 center, a subwoofer, and the 3 surrounds. My receiver is a new Onkyo 605. Will I benefit by having this 3rd surround, or did I just solve my asthetic problem?

Thanks

So it sounds like you went from a 5.1 system to a 6.1. If you don't object, I'd like to turn the question back to you. Does the extra speaker give you a noticeable difference compared to before you added it? I'm not sure but I don't think there are many sources that do 6.1 or 7.1 so I beleive the extra speaker is just playing the same signal as your side surrounds. If I'm wrong about this I will be soundly corrected by those in the know on this forum so help me god...

Thanks for reply. I cant answer yet. I am waiting for the speaker to come in. The fishing and wiring was extremely difficult - hope it was worth it

Ed, I think it will be a good thing going to 6.1. At the very least it seems like it should give a larger sound field. Also I'm curious if you have a blu-ray because I believe they are 7.1 capable and if you do have blu that extra surround speaker, as long as it's positioned correctly is going to make sense. I only wished that you had run two pairs of speaker wire in case you decided to go 7.1 in the future. As long as it doesn't mess up the aesthetics.

Your asthetic problem is now fixed. If you like the sound good. If not unplug it from your AVR/amp.

I like 7.1, it is all about your space.
