Then use the curtains to mask the horizontal differences. Also the film stores the images anamorphically with no black bars. D-6500 03-27-08, 04:35 PM I have a quick question for you guys.. Why don’t we usually see Black Bars in great movie theaters? I'll counter you with one: Why don't we usually see curtains on the sides of wide-screen televisions(or on the tops & bottoms of regular 1.33:1 square TVs)? ;) cavu 03-27-08, 05:30 PM Why don’t we usually see Black Bars in great movie theaters?Because the curtains are drawn over the areas where the "black bars might be"!! The screen is "constant height" (duh!) but variable width. If the image is wider, they open the curtains wider. I guess you all are too young to remember when the curtains were drawn closed over the move screen before the movie started. When the lights dimmed, the curtains would open to the appropriate width for the film. News-reels came on first so the curtains would only open a bit for them (as they were narrow frame) then would open wider for the feature film. :sheesh: lcaillo 03-28-08, 07:29 AM I have a quick question for you guys.. Why don’t we usually see Black Bars in great movie theaters? For the same reason that we don't see them in great home theaters. The screen width is adjusted to fit the image. davehancock 03-28-08, 06:22 PM I'm seeing a lot of movie theaters that have fixed width screens: the raise or lower the upper curtain to compensate. Result - the wider the image, the smaller the image (in terms of square feet)! SUCKS: No wonder I rarely go!!! |
