I'm a newbie in this area and have a "do it yourself" approach.

I mounted my new LCD TV on a LevelMount wall mount. When I was mounting the base on the wall, I took the following precautions:
1. Made sure that all the nails went into the stud by using a stud detector and verified that by hammering a nail into the stud.
2. After I finished installing the base, I checked at various locations on the base and the installed screws with a tester to make sure that they did not have any contact with any live wire inside the wall.

I checked with the manufacturer that there was the screws that go at the back of the TV are insulated do not have any electrical contact with the internal circuitry.

I completed mounting the TV to the base and applied power to the TV. I heard a popping sound and my TV went dead after that. Did anyone else encountered a similar problem before and have any suggestions on how to remedy the problem. The base is still installed on my wall.

I don't think there's an explanation to what happened with my TV and I would like to avoid a similar thing from occurring on my second TV. I admit that I did not use surge protector when connecting the TV, but I find it difficult to believe that there was power surge at that very moment when I connected the TV. A few minutes earlier, I had the drill machine connected to the same outlet and it worked fine.

Any recommendations in this are would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I really don't think there is any current in your mount but to check you could take a volt-meter and a ground source and check.

Get an extension cord and stick one of the probes in the ground plug and then the other to the bracket. I bet you won't get a reading.

I think that the process of moving the panel around caused an internal component to move out of position and/or something loose inside to touch a live contact. Do you have any kids? they might have stuck something in it. In any case, if this is a new unit you should take it back to the store. Tell them when you turned it on for the first time it popped.

You should be entitled (and should demand) to a free replacement. I don't think it was anything you did wrong.

Thanks for your response. No one except me and friend touched the TV during the whole installation process. It was working fine before I moved it over to the wall mount and I powered of the unit a good 6 hours before actually moving it for the wall mounting.

Nice idea about the multimeter. I'll verify it again suing a multimeter.

i don't think your mount had any power to it. you would have had a problem before you turned it on. Judging by your description, as long as the bolts used to mount the bracket to the set aren't too long and shorted the board, you just had a bad tv. in my experience product failure usually happens in the first couple of days. not to say it can't happen later, but i have had more product die in the first week, then the rest of the first year.

if you bought this through a local store, i would box it up, and take it back. if you ordered it online, i would start calling and figure out how to replace it.

good luck

I think something came loose (or moved inside) when you moved it.
