I have been surfing these forums for years for ideas but never really posted. Here is my new HT in my second house. (I have already built one and then sold the house).

Equipment:

Pioneer Elite 92TXH
Pioneer Elite 46AV
Starchoice HD
NetUPS SE
Da-Lite 92" Acoustically Transparent Screen
Panasonic PT-L300U (hoping it will die so I can get a 1080P)

Energy C-9 (Front)
Energy C-1 (Back)
Enery CC-1 (Center)
Energy C-R3 (Surround)
Energy E:XL S10 (Two of these for Stereo Bass Up Front)
DIY Adire Tempest Sub tuned to 19hz powered by 500watt Sunfire Amp (Subwoofer)

In the sketch, you can see the placement of all the speakers. The big sub is behind the riser.

Here is a google sketch up of the room. It was originally an illegal bedroom and a rec room. Imagine the back wall placed where the front seats are. Room dimensions: 12x17.

Built the rear wall

Ripped down the front wall so we could wire it.
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/FrontWall.jpg

Ripped down the drywall around the door so we could wire the speakers and insulate it.
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/Door.jpg

A whole lot of insulation. I believe the ceiling has been ripped down already too. Roxul stuck in the ceiling. Pink stuff for the rear wall leading to the weight room.

Somehow I missed all the pictures of putting up drywall and sanding. Probably because I was tired. By the way, my father and I did all the work.

Sanded and primed.

You can see the riser we built out of 2x4's and two layers of particle board. Stuffed with leftover pink stuff. Very solid, and liquid nailed to the cement.

Here you can see how dark the paint is:

Took 3 coats on all the walls.

Crown Molding was up in the last pictures too. Kind of jumped some steps somewhere. Anyways, all the plates are up. The crooked one is my rear subwoofer mounted to a crooked stud. Hole in the wall is for power to the projector.

Ceiling Outlets (ignore the speaker connector, it is filling a hole):

Remote control light switch for potlights over rear seating:

Speaker mounts for the surround speakers. Made out of solid Maple (thanks for the wood DAD!).

I think this is when we did the crown molding.... I don't remember. Air nail gun sure is handy. Three spotlights on each side in the front.

Carpet in (Advice to anyone doing their own, as I did... rent a power stretcher). Front DIY acoustic panels also mounted. Constructed as per a link found on the internet (insulation, foam, and chicken wire).
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/CarpetColourKinda.jpg

Stuck the couch in. Finished the riser in solid Maple trim, and carpet on top.
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/TheRiser.jpg

The subwoofer behind the couch. Built out of 1 inch MDF and covered in 1/4inch birch. I forget the exact dimensions, but it has to weigh well over 100 pounds. It was a tight fit with the connectors in the back.

Couch again, cleaned this time. It is a Palliser with recliners on each end.
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/Seat.jpg

Maple shelf beside couch for remotes and little lamp. Maple shelf in rear corner for phone. Speakers up.
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/SeatingXRocker.jpg

Found these for front seats at Walmart. X rocker video game chairs. Really comfy and I am going to hook them up to my rear subs output so that the subs in the chair work (see if they shake or not... might be crap). Bought them because of comfort and they match my gear (black/silver).

Front Speakers in. Stuck acoustic foam all over the front wall and two bass traps in the front corners. Couch got dirty again.
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/FrontSpeakers.jpg

Extra foam is for panels that will be trimmed in Maple and mounted at speakers first reflection points.

Frame built to mount screen (made out of 2x2 and L brackets... very light). Any edge that may be seen was painted black:
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/Frame2.jpg
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/Frame1.jpg

Now what is this? In my old house, the picture would create an "echo" picture on the wall behind it because light would pass through the holes in the acoustic screen. In my other house I wrapped the frame in cloth. This time I used 1/8 inch hardboard which is much better. Cut out for speaker in the middle. No light getting thru.

AV rack by Bello. Will be mounted on a mini MDF stage painted black (NETUps will be under the stage... sucker weighs 50 pounds and I don't want to put that on glass). Once the stage is built, all the wallplates will line up properly.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/AVRack1.jpg

Projector mounted approx 11.5 inches from ceiling. Level with top of screen, no keystone correction needed here. People sitting in the rear will need to watch their head though.

Quick picture of Monster Inc. to show the effectiveness of all the black:
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/BlackisBack.jpg

To do list. Mini stage and acoustic panels. Install two solid core doors and weather trim. I have been working on this since December once or twice a week if I am lucky.

With the acoustic panels in the correct spot. You can see that I followed my initial design almost perfectly... with the exception of all my seating moved back... that's why the subwoofer was a tight fit.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/RevisedGoogleSketch.jpg

I drew a mirror of the room and found the first reflection points using lines which you can see intersecting the wall. Then I revised my panel design. Don't worry, everything will look better in real life.

Note: the front and right wall are 2x4 over concrete. The left wall is 10 inches thick (two complete separate walls with space in between, Yay! to the original builders) and partially borders the furnace room (cannot hear it). The other wall we built goes to the weight room which has all 3 walls of concrete.

Very nice work. I don't think I would have the guts to try to do my own carpet install. And I really like the maple trim. It's the wood I'm thinking about using in my room.

Maple trim, hardboard backing, 2" acoustic foam. Placed at first reflection points for left and right speaker, and on the rear wall where the front speakers point.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/RearAcousticTreatment.jpg

Using the "clap test" there is still a zinging echo in the room between these two panels. Might stick a DIY Insulation trap similar to the ones on my front wall... those suckers on the front wall are super effective.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i316/Kanadian24/Home%20Theatre/AcousticTreatments.jpg

And yes, one is slightly higher than the other... stupid electrical outlet. Glade plug in to get rid of the rubber cement smell (used to glue the foam on). I did it in the garage; but, the whole house smells like glue. Total of 11 acoustic treatments in the room (five on the front wall).

Mini stage complete. Made to conceal my UPS. It converts the AC to DC then back to AC. Article on why you should have one is here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1016752).

The UPS weighs too much for the glass to support it (50+ lbs). Components not in yet. Waiting on a piece of plexiglass for the receiver (it is too deep, and needs to sit on a piece of plexi on top of the glass otherwise it will tip backwards on the narrow middle shelf...). DVD player awaiting receiver. Speaker wire waiting to be picked up. Carpet waiting to be vacuumed (covered in sawdust).

... I think I am done though. YAY!

The mini stage is actually suppose to sit flush with the front subs (I was messing with cables before taking the pic). After looking at the picture I went downstairs and pushed it in. There is no reflection off of the glass onto the screen.

The room looks great. Very nice work you have done there. But I am surprised after all the work you have put in you are using WHITE trim and outlets instead of black LOL It looks good though and I especially like the green color on the walls. At first I thought it was black until later photos.

Ya, I thought about black trim and outlets, but there is this thing called the wife. It is not too distracting during a movie, obviously, it is the most visible thing in the room when playing. It also adds a nice contrast to all the darkness.

I did not know what colors the walls were (slighlty color blind) the wife picked it... it was suppose to be dark brown, but it does have a green tinge.

We watched Transformers last night (2nd time for me). I have not replaced the doors yet and had to stick cardboard in the jams to stop them from rattling (lol). 92TXH did not even get warm after over 2hours of playing as loud as we could tolerate (I could barely hear my wife speaking to me on the other side of the couch). Sounds awesome.
