I have the original Avia (soon to receive Avia II), and the sd-DVE and now the new DVE blu-ray sets. The filters from Joe Kane's set are essentially the same in color, and the Avia Blue in particular is drastically different from the DVE. The filters have always been kept shielded for all light exposure, except when used.
The settings for the “Blue to Gray” of the bar patterns on ether author’s disks will yield some differences, but within reason for one set of filters. The MAJOR difference is in which filter is used (in particular the blue) to set the Saturation level. A ten click difference, which yields a drastic change.
This is being done on a Fujitsu P50 and what prompted the system recalibration was the new blu-ray machine.

Any assistance from you experts would be helpful.

John, those filters are balanced for particular primaries, so if your display's primaries don't match those, your results will be off somewhat. If your display allows you to isolate colors, that's more accurate than using filters. If not, I'd do color/tint adjustment with each filter set and see which gives the most natural fleshtones-which run more to tan than pink-in actual program material.

Neither. The filters are a less-than completely desireable compromise for displays that unfortunately don't have a blue-only mode. Sadly, that's most displays.

I realize the filters are a compromise, BUT it still is better that just a guess of ones eye. I also realize that phosphor color shade should match the filter, however that is not practical.

With that said, I received the Avia II which has a MUCH deeper saturated blue and green set (compared to the original Avia), yielding a close results to the DVE set, but not the same.

Tests I conducted on the DVE and original Avia, Blue filters indicates that the Avia will pass Red and Green and the DVE will pass Red as a recognizable original color. The new Avia II was an excellent Blue filter.

The bottom line is that the new Avia II filters yields the best looking video for me.
