Can I use the Spyder2 colorimetre with HCFR stuck on the TV just like it's done when using SpyderTV or is a tripod necessary?

Can someone direct me to an HCFR guide. I read through a lot of forums but from what i understand there's no definitive guide. I was wondering if anyone could help me get started. Display calibration is completely new to me.

My TV is the 60" Pioneer Kuro.

Start by reading these two posts. They are both very helpful. The first is a guide to calibration and the second is a guide to understanding the charts in HCFR. Not sure about the spyder2, though.

I know the spyder works with the program, but I'm not familiar with the probe and would have to expect it works the same as with the native software unless something like a diffuser would come into play.

I read http://geekwithfamily.com/2006/12/16/home-theater/howto-hcfr-free-video-projector-calibration-software/ to get started with the software. Parts of it are out of date, but in general it's the best guide I've seen. It brings up some of the areas where the program stores settings and some different options to select, and basically that's what I found most useful to get acquainted with the basic idea of how the program works. If that still doesn't help, then surely someone would be able to help you out with specific questions.

yeah the spyder2 works just fine, you have to copy a spyder2.DLL file(can't remember the exact name) from the spyder directory into the HCFR directory, then you are off and running.

Although for a Plasma, HCFR recomends having the filter on, using LCD mode which means having the spyder hanging over the TV.

A few questions:

What readings do you take and in what order?

What do you adjust in the TV settings to get the right grayscale?

and what do you adjust to get the right primary/secondary colours and colour temperature?
