View Full Version : Not happy with wall plate/wiring visibility...

I him-hawed with some ideas of how to run wiring through my screen wall for the LCR & sub speakers. There were already 3 single gang wall plates there, so rather than cut new holes for new wall plates, I opted to just use the existing holes and get new applicable wall plates. After running the in-wall wiring, I'm not happy with the outcome. I guess it never occurred to me how much it would stick out...the speaker wiring especially.

What should I have done differently? I thought about putting them behind the right speaker, but that is still visible from certain angles in the room. I've wondered about putting flex-loom or some other sort of wrap around the wiring to make it not stick out so much. Thoughts?

I'll be getting two AVS MFW-15 subs soon and will place one between each main and the center speaker, which will cover up the sub wiring (far right plate), but I'm thinking the speaker wiring will still show through a little bit.

Quick and dirty way would be to paint the wires and faceplates (or even just the faceplates) the same color as the wall. That way they fade into the background. Those white plates just jump out at you.

You could come up with some fabric wall treatment that would surround your screen to cover it all up as well.

I ran my wires inside a side wall and the wallplate is behind a speaker. The wires then run to the center and right speaker along the baseboard and really are not noticable.

Laters,

Painting the wall plates is what I did in my space. It turned out very well.

I've used this in the past, painted the same color as the wall and it worked out well.

Doh! My first post, so I couldn't include a URL. It's called Cordmate, made by Wiremold. It's a cable channel, has elbows, etc. I really liked it.
