View Full Version : 1 hr still no warhawk... what am i doing wrong?
I rented warhawk from blockbuster no instructions, started up my ps3 there was a system update 2.0 i think it was to do, did that restarted stuck warhawk disc in and it said there was a download i needed to do for that 42MB so i did that said restart i did (with disc still inside ps3) restarted and it auto went to play the disc right away went to a black screen sat there for a good 5 mins nothing going on so i turned it off and back on, again restarted to immedate start of game i see ps3 logo , blackscreen then it just sits at black screen, no remote interaction etc.
So then I used the dvd remote controller and hit EJECT, that got the disc out, restarted ps3 again, this time before putting the disc in i went to game utilities and deleted the warhawk (thinking it must have not downloaded right).
Put the disc in again made me go thru a download step then said it was installing (YEAH it has to work this time right?) so then when that was done it said restart system.
I left the disc in restarted system and this time warhawk started up with option screens, I hit online play and it just says network initializing yet never actually connects to anything.
I use the ps3 online store often, the media server often, even just did a system udpate and that 42 mb warhawk download thing a few times, yet it can't seem to connect to play the game?
I verified mypcs were still online, even ejected the disc went to ps3 store yep I sign right in and all is good, I even went so far as to go reset my modem and router and tried again still just sticks at initalizing network and gives me an error message about a min later after trying...
I have literally been messing with this for an hour now and can't even get past the start screen, any ideas of what is causing this, not even sure why i was having so much trouble with the install, should I go back in delete the warhawk file in game utilities folder and try this all again from step 1?
I am on comcast cable with a netgear router if that makes any difference.
I even tried local vs online (thinking maybe it was online tutorial stuff i could use or would just let me shoot stuff up or learn to drive and fly etc) but it too tries to connect and wont ughh).
I just wanna TRY the game, but so far no luck even trying it hehe

serversurfer 03-29-08, 05:14 PM I just played Warhawk for the first time the other night, and I'd say I was playing within 20 minutes.
Maybe you have a bad disc? Is it dirty and/or scratched?
kekborg 03-29-08, 05:28 PM Bill, delete the download (in games saves or game data). Start all over after you do that.
If that does not work...you might have a bad disk....
I was reading around google and such, decided one last time delete game data on ps3 redownload restart etc, this time once again at menu screen crossed fingers got in saw like 500 different servers to connect to (still going blind here) tried a green one (not sure what difference is between greeen and red) and the second i came to life (many times) I am getting blown up from airships immediately!
I ran to a gun and can of somesort but didnt even get all the way to them before again I was blown up ;(
I couldn't figure out how to get out of that game and into another without shutting down the game and going back into it, did that and tried a different green dot one and again i barely even get 10 seconds of trying to figure out what button does what etc and bam I am blown up again.
Is there any sort of training or tutorial type level where I won't get torn up in 10 seconds or less?
Overall game looks cool, not my normal game choice actually more into sim stuff and rockband and the kids games for daughter, but at this rate i probably wont buy the game cuz i don't know if I will ever even GET a chance to figure out the buttons controls whatever without getting hammered on immediately.
Bill :(
I did find the manual via google, gonna give that a good read thru and see what else i can figure out from it

Bill, instead of going "online", you may want to start up a "local" server. Try a couple diff. maps and just fly around, find where all the weapons spawns are, get used to the vehicles, and learn how to switch weapons, throw gernades, etc.....
I went through exactly what you are talking about when I first got the game. I did what I suggested above and it helped.....

Hi Bill,
Welcome to Warhawk, it sounds like your first experience was a little rough.
Before hoping on a server, make sure you understand what your hoping into. More specifically I would recommend doing what Kekborg recommended and play on an empty server and just see what the weapons are like and get a feel for them.
After that, it might be helpful to join a server that is not an official sony server and just play around in some of the smaller maps (4-10 people) so you don't get killed right away. After you get use to some of these things, try reading Warhawk stats (http://www.warhawkstats.com), specifically the tips for new players and get familiar with what all the numbers, badges, ranks, etc mean.
Finally after that, maybe join us on a warhawk wed for a little fun and laughs. Something more relaxed will make death more appealing. :)
Good Luck, hope to see you on Warhawk Wed!

I think between now having the instructions and the tip of starting a local server and just getting used to where things are and how to operate them I will probably enjoy warhawk.
Kids are playing wii rayman 2 at the moment, but when bedtime comes for them i will give it another shot armed with all this new info...
Thanks everyone for the tips and info.
Bill :)
William Mapstone 03-29-08, 08:24 PM Glad to see you got it working. Go in to a white server where there is a limit of 8 people or less on a Large map or host your own match with less than 8 people on a large map. The large maps are designed for 32 people but with less than 8 people it makes a great playground for new players.
mulder_fbi 03-29-08, 09:50 PM Remember the #1 rule... HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!
serversurfer 03-29-08, 11:06 PM I thought that was like #3, mulder. :p
tdogroeder 03-30-08, 07:13 AM What is warhawk going for these days, and who has the cheapest price?
serversurfer 03-30-08, 08:05 AM Right now, the downloadable version is $30 through April 15th.
I just got a new copy w/headset from an Amazon "3rd party" for about $50 delivered.
If you have more than one person in your household that might want to play, be sure to get the disc version (with or without the headset), as the downloadable is tied to the purchasing account.

Is the headset necessary, does it enhance gaming experience, or is it more personal preference?
serversurfer 03-30-08, 02:55 PM For effective (read: any) communication with your teammates, in this and other games, yes, you'll want a headset. So please buy one, and use it to coordinate and chit-chat with your team, not to be an ass. :p
The headset that comes with Warhawk is pretty nice. You can probably save a dollar or two (by the time you take S&H in to account) by shopping the 'net for a similar unit, but to be honest, it's easier to just get the bundle if you don't already have a Bluetooth headset for your cell phone or computer.

Necessary then, thanks.

Would I be better off just buying the disk with headset at a brick & mortor store, cheaper, or what do the headsets cost alone?
newfmp3 03-30-08, 03:03 PM Sony still hasn't learned.
No Demo= not interested. Even more so for a multiplayer only game.

You could rent it...much like the op did...;).

Well, I got the bundle (new) for about $50 shipped from an Amazon "3rd-party retailer," which is $10 less than you'd pay at Wal-Mart. It's basically a question of whether you want to pay the extra ten bucks, or wait a few days to get the game. I'm cheap (read: I have a wife and kid :p), so I opted to wait.
I got a headset that's similar to the bundled one (same make, slightly different model) for my wife for Christmas for her cell. I think Sprint wanted like $35 or so, and I believe I got it mail order for about $18 delivered. Like I said, if you need a headset, you may as well just buy the bundle. It really is a pretty decent deal.

I have a wife & kid also, so saving $10 is worth waiting a few days for me. I will check out what deals there are on the web.
Thanks for you help.
