View Full Version : Lightning hit my house...

It appears that it hosed my HDMI inputs on my Samsung DLP. Everything else appears fine, the surge protectors seemed to have helped where they could, but I foolishly did not have my Satellite cables going through surge, and I think my speaker wires picked up some voltage as it traveled through the house.

My question is, can the HDMI inputs be easily replaced? The rest of the TV looks fine, but I need those inputs. I would hate to replace the whole set because of this.

Go to Samsungparts.com, put your model number into the search column on the left side and follow the prompts. A screen will come up with all available parts for your tv. If you can't find it, call them. There should be a board you can replace assuming that the board was the only part fried.

You can also use component cables as they provide equal picture quality to HDMI.

Thanks. The parts on the site only list main boards, which are expensive. I wonder what insurance will, replace or repair?

That is something I had not thought of, but I think the PS3 may not upscale as much over component, not sure.

Anyway, my TV is still under Samsung warranty, so they will send a service man to check it out. The CS rep on the phone pretty thought if lightning hit the TV it would be dead, so the Tech will need to decide if lightning is the cause. In any case, I will have either a warranty repair through Samsung, or Insurance at this point since Samsung stated a lightning strike is considered an act of god and voids the warranty. So if the tech decides lightning is the cause, I am assuming it will void my extended warranty through Mack Camera, so I am hoping I can get insurance to reimburse it cost.
