I would like to purchase a new DVD Recorder and I need the Board's advice. Which our the best DVD Recorders that the board would recommend? I currently have the Panasonic DMR-E75HS and the DMR-E85. Preferrably one that is 1080P. THANKS for any INFORMATION

Your current recorders are better than anything on the market right now, unfortunately. If you need an extra, I'd let others more up with the current models make recommendations, but if you want a recorder than can record 1080p, you're out of luck. (none exist, at least in the US)

I still prefer Panasonic's for PQ and heres a link to there current line up.

None have HDD's but all will upconvert to 1080p.
I have the EZ-28 which has very good PQ recording off it's digital tuner. I am OTA only so I get many Twin Cities HD channels. If you're cable or SAT the digital tuner may not be as big a deal, especially since most cable co's encrypt most of there digital HD lineup.
Here's a link to the Panasonic EZ-28, the only one that currently has a thread. The others are still too new.

The Philips 3575 is also a favorite of the board. It's about the only decent recorder left with a HDD. Check out it's sticky or this LONG thread.

I had one and really loved it's flexibility with the HDD, but really preferred the PQ of my Panny's.

Pioneers are only available from international sources or a 8 hr trip up to Thunder Bay or anywhere in Canada that sells them. Note none will have the digital tuner, if that matters to you. Still nothing that records in HD, but with the digital tuners in the Panny's recoding off HD channels I do get a "quite good" WS picture to standard DVD's. Recording off HD I seem to get even better PQ using LP than recording of a SD channel. Still best to stick below 3hrs/disc though, IMO.

edit: If you're only recording from line in, I'd have to agree with JMSCOTT42, you're probably not going to get any better than you've got now. The new ones only benefit from being able to record from the WS HD channels with there digital tuner. Recording from line in I get the same PQ on my ES series Panny's as my EZ series.

According to what I've heard they don't make HDD anymore, Why? 2)With the switch of digital/analog in February of 2009, What does this mean to my current PANNYS? I Currently have the DMR-E75VH and DMR-E85. 3) Will they become obsolete even thou I only record off Dish Network Programming? THANKS FOR ANY INFORMATION.
Lastly when will Dish or Directv go to 1080P Programming?

A good HDD unit can be found here, with lots of info w/o reading thousands of posts. (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=940657)

No one is quite sure why they don't make many HDD models anymore. There are a variety of opinions, from low sales to high complexity (Too confusing for your "average American"?), to conspiracies about Hollywood paying off manufacturers-- I'll leave that for another thread.

Since you use Dish it means absolutely NOTHING for your current models. The digital TV switchover ONLY applies to those using antennas to get over-the-air analog signals. So you don't need to replace your current models at all, if that is all you were looking for. The only glitch I can think of is some people use antennas to get TV Guide data or the like which won't work after the analog switchover... (if you're only using an antenna for TVGOS on the unit-- I don't recall if those models had TVGOS)
