"Those who harbored desires to go on Crackdown-esque romps through New York City with a genetically mutated pal will undoubtedly be crushed to learn that developer Radical Entertainment and publisher Sierra have decided to scrap Prototype's multiplayer mode in order to encourage players to truly delve into the single-player storyline, and, more truthfully, so they could meet their original Fall 2008 launch window." WOW  This was probably the game I was looking forward to the most. I had an absolute blast just beating Crackdown with a buddy about a month ago and was hoping this could be the next big sandbox game (possibly even better than GTA4!)

The game honestly went from a must buy, to an eh, I'll pick it up when its used at gamestop for $30. They did mention in the article that they may release multiplayer as a DLC down the line, but I most likely wont be picking it up if/when it happens.

Can I be the first to say YAY! Too many games skimp on the single player for crpy multiplayer. Only a few games ever become the "ones to play" on line the others just fall into obscurity. I am glad that some games (like Bioshock) decide to focus on singleplayer and not tack on MP (or worse focus on MP and tack on SP).

I am the type that is MP all the way. I think it took me MONTHS to finally finish Halo 3's SP and probably a year for Halo 2's.

I think it has a lot to do with the type of gameplay and if it transitions into MP well. Something like Oblivion is great for SP but Halo or any FPS Mp all the way

i agree with AHDTV, but a sandbox game like this should have co-op, like crackdown.

That means rental or used purchase for me!

Unfortunate.

Hmm, this is a $60 game, with no MP, but a hint that MP may be released as DLC if the game is well received.. for what? $10, $15? through in a few maps makes it $20?

this DLC world is really screwing us..

Who's to say it won't be in a free DLC or title update? Crackdown added quite a bit of functionality in a free DLC pack. I'm sure other games have as well.

I'm a bit disappointed this game doesn't have multiplayer, because of how well it worked in Crackdown. This game looks too cool to pass up at this point, but that could change as the release date gets closer.

For this type of game I'd have enjoyed a co-op MP, but had no expectations there'd be anything more than that.

I'm ok with them focusing on the SP of this game.
