Tonight is the series premier. Hopefully it will be somewhat entertaining.

Tracy Ulman is extremely talented; however, I found the premier of her new show boring. I will give it another week.

I agree. The season opener was not good.

Skimmed an article (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/30/arts/television/30wyat.html?scp=1&sq=Tracey+Ullman&st=nyt) about her new show in yesterday's NY Times. Not especially a fan, but I'm usually amazed at her transformations uncovered while channel surfing. -- John

Hmmm... I am usually a Tracy Ullman fan, but to be horribly frank, I thought that first episode was bad. Really bad.

This series only had 6 total episodes?
I was thinking it got cancelled, the Season Finale was 04/27/2008.

Tracy's character depiction of Ariana Huffington was priceless. But, it is good that the series consisted of only six episodes. They were very repetitive. I wonder if Ms. Ullman was insinuating that America is boring and repetitive.

Tracy's character depiction of Ariana Huffington was priceless.Agreed. I thought this was hilarious.

Actually, her David Beckham impression was just as remarkable. I happened to see an interview with the real Beckham on "Extra" or some such tabloid show and thought I was listening to Tracey Ullman doing Beckham, it was that perfect (i.e. her impression of him on her show).

But, it is good that the series consisted of only six episodes. They were very repetitive.Note that it is quite typical for "seasons" of originally British series showing on BBC across the pond (e.g. "Coupling" and "The Office") are only 6 episodes long. The British have a different notion of what the length of a "season" is, especially since they are non-commercial presentations.

The 22-episode expectations for an American "season" is uniquely American, motivated by advertising and cash.

Granted, Tracey's show was unexpectedly short in duration considering that other Showtime series, like "Weeds", "L-Word", "Brotherhood", etc. are 10-12 episodes.

Anyway, I loved Tracey's show. I was always looking forward to another reprise of Laurie David, or Cameron Diaz.

Hey, that's what a great impressionist does... a collection of characters that are so well carved that the audience loves seeing them over and over and looks forward to their repeated performance. Think of all of the great SNL impressionists over the years who repeatedly do other popular celebrities or political figures, Frank Caliendo and his very current impressions, and way back when Rich Little and Vaughn Meader were popular. And who can forget Frank Gorshin doing James Cagney over and over. Fabulous! The public laughs over and over... that's the point, and that's how you make a career out of it by doing them very well.

And Tracey does her collection of characters VERY well.

I wonder if Ms. Ullman was insinuating that America is boring and repetitive.Absolutely not. I myself did not think the show was boring, although I enjoyed some characters (fictional) and impressions (better) more than others. The show was not trying to "insinuate" anything about American culture. It was simply a showcase for her multi-assorted comedic impressions skills, done through many very short "bits", unrelated by anything other than that they are all part of American life.

You have to admit, makeup and clothing and body add-ons certainly made her look like many many different people totally other than herself. I loved her TSA Inspector.

P.S. - Tracey is now a full-fledged American citizen, and she's been living in America for many many years.

2009 bump.

The new season started last night.
Once again, I did not like it. To tell you how much I did not like it, I thought Parks and Recreation was way better. :p

The calls to the White House was ok, it was the only thing that made me laugh.

Unfortunately, I missed the opening episode. I don't know where I was or what I was watching but I never saw any advertising for it or promotions. Surprising, since I really enjoyed Season 1 and was sorry it was so short.

But I'll watch it On Demand to catch up.

However I did get on track in time for episode 2 this week. I thought it was hilarious! As usual, her humorous and spot-on impersonations (coupled with perfect hair, makeup, clothing, vocal tics, dialect, settings, etc.) of both male and female characters are amazing. Donna Karan, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Arianna Huffington, Linda Alvarez, Tony Sirico, Renee Zellweger, Laura Bush, all in 23 minutes... just great!

Watched episode 1. Definitely so-so, as you said.

Episode 2 was certainly superior.

I still like her, and I still like the premise.

New season starts on Monday. Not really looking forward to it, but I'll give it a watch.Preceded by the start of new season of "Diary" (actually, this Monday is a repeat of last season's finale, but next Monday the new season officially starts).

Followed by the start of a new 6-episode British-style comedy series named "La La Land".

I'm looking forward to Tracey. I like her impersonations.
