View Full Version : HOME accomplishments/trophies - Anyone have any info?
guitarlp 03-30-08, 03:57 PM Does anyone know what the accomplishments will be like in HOME? I think that's what they're calling it... but I also hear "trophies" as well.
Is it going to be similar to the 360's achievements? Like you unlock certain tasks for points? Or is it something simple like if you beat a game on hard you get a gold trophy... medium you get silver... and so on?
I'm curious how this will compare the the 360 and how it's going to be setup within HOME. I don't think the current beta offers any of this though from everything I've read... but maybe one of you has some information or a link to something that talks about this?
serversurfer 03-30-08, 04:13 PM It's going to be like Achievements, in that you get them for accomplishing certain tasks, but unlike Achievements, in that you'll have something "tangible" to show for it. So rather than having a checklist of things you did for strangers to ignore, you'll have some swag to show off to your friends when they come over to your apartment.
I don't know if you've played Uncharted yet (if not, you should, now), but in the game there are these little "treasures" you can find. When you do, there's a little 3D model of the trinket you discovered, and you and spin it around and look at it. Home allows developers to use actual game assets as rewards, so in your apartment, you could theoretically have a little display case with all of the treasure you found for your friends to ooh and ah over when they come to visit. :)
Now, you'll also be getting "trophies" for stuff like beating the game, so to stick with Uncharted, if you beat the game on Crushing difficulty, you might get the golden statue to display, for example.
confidenceman 03-30-08, 04:44 PM And if you've played DMC4 on PS3, you have a good sense for how it will basically work (since the game tells you when you've gotten an "Accomplishment").
hint: it works identically to Achievements (except you get visible trophies for your Home space).
Kinda off topic but I was wondering...Are you only limited to showing off your "trophies" when you are online or can people come over to your "home" and look at them even if you aren't there?
would you let me in your house to check things out when your not at home ?

Apparently, Sony is aiming for July (leaked PSN release schedule, later confirmed as legit, but not set in stone), but they haven't announced anything officially yet.
This is speculation on my part and just my opinion.
I think with Achievements, they're just how we're seeing them in game. There may be some tie-ins (swag for your avatar or furnishings for your apartment) with Home, but I think current games will need to be patched. I haven't see any games mentioning Home in their Achievements.
The trophies that I've seen mentioned, these will be Accomplishments. I'm thinking there will be a special room in your apartment, within Home, that is just for your Trophies. Here is a link (http://www.talkaboutdesign.com/articles/ps3_accomplishments_leaked/) that shows a leaked screen shot of someone receiving an "Accomplishment Completed" message in their XMB message box. I'm guessing that games will vary in what you need to do to receive an Accomplishment. I'm sure they will be much harder then Achievements. But I haven't heard anything in regards to what it will take to get one.
As serversurfer mentioned, there was a leak, from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, of upcoming dates. Home was said to be scheduled for a July release. The reaction of leak, some are saying validates that it has merit. Not sure about Japan or North America, but I would guess right around the same time.

As I mentioned above, there are quite a few of those accomplishment messages while playing DMC 4 (in the XMB screen, not in a game screen).
And if the DMC accomplishments are any gauge of how difficult they are to achieve, I doubt they'll be any different from achievements in terms of difficulty (and is obviously true for multi-platform titles).
Rakesh.S 03-31-08, 01:25 AM inviting people to your e-house and showing off your e-trophies -- now that is truly pathetic....I thought the xbox was bad with all the achievement whoring that goes on, but this takes it to a whole new level.

Ya, but making fun of it on a message board is really cool
