I am looking for an INTENSE subwoofer for use outside.

I was thinking about getting a Marine 12" suwoofer and a matching piece of Sonotube and then making a .88 cu.ft. area behind the SW, and then covering the entire thing in a lump of concrete, rock and debris so it would blend into my yard.

If I take this approach, how much do I need to worry about a "flat" end on the sonotube. With such a small enclosure there is not much room to make it odd shapped.

Otherwise, anyone know of an intense outdoor subwoofer with a less than instense price ?

you mention being in the yard and camo'd and hidden.

i have a 'table tuba' (TT) (http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/TT.html)which is a folded horn that does well with wall/corner loading, so now that it's bigger brother is done (Tuba Home Theater- THT (http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/THT.html) ) i'll be placing my TT outside but under my deck and using the under-deck exterior brick wall of my house to help out response and output.

if you're serious about doing something in the open, think anechoic, build a pair of these (http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/T36.html) and "v-couple" them (http://billfitzmaurice.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4380&highlight=vcouple), heck, put a bush in the 'v' so that it hides the openings.

i plan on putting a strong mesh to keep the critters out, and since the driver is deep in the horn, less direct moisture issues.

You can build a pair of the Tuba 36 models for $600 drivers, wood, everything.

here's 2 of them anechoic (outside) at 10M with 100 watts:

and the Tuba36 can be built in a variety of ways (horiz or vertical baffle, 2x 12, 1x 15, 2x15, etc) here are some 2.83V anechoic responses for your viewing pleasure.

two in v-couple with the H/V baffle depending on your response goals, and build up a berm behind them and a water feature/bush near the mouth would be funny - you'd blow the leaves off it :)
