Okay I have never been good with this network stuff so I am going to forego the whole me failing miserably trying to do it on my own part.

I am trying to connect my laptop to my 80gb ps3 via wireless so that I can use the ps3 to play streaming videos on my tv. All I have are the wireless already in the ps3 and the wireless card already in my laptop. I do not have a router of any kind. So what do I do now?. What do I do on my laptop side and what do I do on my ps3 side? I need step by step. Someone please help me.

I think you need a router

1)Get wireless router and connect devices to Network

2) Install software on Laptop for sharing
I like Windows Media Player 11(WM11) or TVersity. I use Tversity for video and WM11 for Music. Software will run in background and can be processor intensive if running both.

3) Configure software/Add files to be shared

4) Might have to enable streaming or access on the PS3 but I think it is defaulted to on. - Not sure

5) Enjoy

I'm sure there are more step by step directions for each of these steps out on the Web ... Google it.

I am trying to stream music and videos from my laptop to my ps3.

I've read on a few forums, including this one, that it is possible to connect the ps3 to a laptop via ad-hoc networking. I've been trying for hours to do this but no luck. Here is what I've done so far.

Using Windows Zero Configuration (the default windows wireless thing)

Set IP to 192.168.1.10
Set to only see ad-hoc networks
Added ad-hoc network aloha111 as OPEN with a 5 letter WEP password
Set to automatically connect
Shutdown ZoneAlarm

Now, on the PS3, I go to network settings -> internet connection settings -> custom -> wireless and try scanning for aloha111. It doesn't exist. Other networks, however, are showing. I then try manually entering these:

SSID: aloha111
WEP password: ******
IP: 192.168.1.11
Router: 192.168.1.10
DNS Server: 192.168.1.10
Everything else default. uPnP disabled.

I don't know if I need some of these settings, as I am not trying to share my internet. The main problem is, it will come back with an error saying "The access point was not detected."

Now, what am I doing wrong? Or is ad-hoc even possible on the ps3?
