What is up with that? Isn't it still the number one show on TV? How can local TV news be in HD but not this show. I don't get it. I Googled the subject and someone predicted it would go HD in 2006. Apparently not.

After the Mary Mapes, Dan Rather fiasco, 60 Minutes has been on a fast downhill slide.

Nope, not even close. Hasn't been for a while, especially in the important demos.

I thought I read somewhere here that it's going HD soon. CBS acquired XDCAMs for this program...unless I misread something.

The CBS network made a large purchase of Sony XDCAM HD field cameras for news.
60 Minutes has always been somewhat of an island on its own. Their studio seems to use only one camera. The control room and Avid editing would have to be upgraded to HD. For a show that's always been quality-concious, it is surprising they are not HD.
60 Minutes stayed with 16mm film long after most news was shot on videotape.

It hasn't been #1 for a season since the 1993-94 season (20.9 rating to # 2 Home Improvement's 20.4 and # 3 Seinfeld's 19.4).

But it has consistently been in the top 25 for most all of its 40 years on CBS. The early seasons were a struggle, but once it hit the top 25 in the 1976-77 season (18th, just behind Barney Miller and tied with Hawaii 5-0) it has stayed there.

That was the now-defunct 60 Minutes II.

After the Mary Mapes, Dan Rather fiasco, 60 Minutes has been on a fast downhill slide.

It depends on which important demos you are referring to. I assume you mean the 18-49.

But in the household income and high education demos 60 Minutes is still one fo the leaders.

And in the profit margin rankings it has been in the top tier for more than three decades. And that is a measure of success which, of course, has always been very important to CBS.

Nope, not even close. Hasn't been for a while, especially in the important demos.

I really thought CBS News would go HD after the new "Early Show" launched in January. Although the new set does look HD ready(it looks MUCH better than "Today") with more color and better furniture. I do remember a rumor awhile back that said CBS News was going HD sometime in Spring/Summer 2008, possibly before the convention season. It is just a rumor, but I hope it's true. Even though CBS is SD, I still prefer it over NBC or ABC. Plus, Katie in HD :D

Sorry, but we can't have a topic for every program not in HD.
