I bought Bruce Almighty via the CC 50 percent off deal. Went to play it to scan through and see how it was. I could hear the background music, but I could not hear any dialogue.

Just to pre-answer a few questions:
Every other HD DVD I own has not had this problem (I have over 50), though I cant say I've tried ALL of them on my A30 (had an A2 prior). Tried 2 other universal titles that came out around the same time and both worked.

Using Firmware 2.0. And just for the heck of it, tried 1080p24, 1080p60 and 1080i60. Didn't expect any thing to change, but tried anyway.

I'm using optical-out bitstreamed.

I tried flipping through the audio tracks a few times, and at one point, I got director's commentary which actually played, but still could not hear any dialogue from actors. Couldn't hear dialog in any other language either.

Tried it in my A2, and it works fine - though it's in a different room using HDMI out.

Can someone who owns an A30 check to see if it works for them? Let me know if you're using optical out and what firmware version you have.

my copy had a sound glitch that would cause that funny error code and lock up the machine. I just skip over it and it plays ok

I have an A3 and last night I tried the Dolby True-HD track for Charlie and the Chocolate factory. I got the same results. No vocals, just music. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to correct it in the player?

As far as I know, the TrueHD track on Charlie IS music only, no dialog.

Pretty boneheaded mastering, and waste of a TrueHD track, IMHO. (yeah, so it's got good music, how many people will watch it that way more than maybe once?)

Was this verified or is it player specific?

Anyone else own Bruce Almighty with a 3rd gen Toshiba? Any issues?

I will be happy to try it on my A30 if my copy ever gets here. Should be here any day now

I received my copy today and I've just tried it. All OK with my A30. I must say i'm using the HDMI connection and not the optical.

Thanks for checking. So we know it works with A2 and HDMI and A30 and HDMI. It even worked in my HTPC. Now I need to check my A2 with Optical.
