I have a question regarding video calibration on my Samsung display.
I read all over the forum, most users recommend this mode, so iīm wondering if this mode is the only mode i should use on this tv.
I think this mode is the only mode it turn DNIE off and any other dynamic setting.
But i want to check this first.
a little note, i canīt turn Dynamic CE, Contrast and DImming on this tv, neither DNIE. The only way to turn this setting off is on movie mode. I strongly believe this is the reason why every member here use movie mode but again, i want to check this as well.
Cheers

Hi Booker,
I own the Samsung LE40M86 and if your set is like mine then you will notice that the 'Detailed Settings' sub menu is not available in any mode other than Movie Mode. Within this sub-menu are the RGB offsets and gains used for greyscale adjustment so I guess people who wish to calibrate their greyscale have no alternative.
One exception is if the HTPC option is chosen, you can then access detailed settings for Standard mode too (at least I can over HDMI from my PC).
I also suspect that the movie mode is closer to the desired result for calibration than any of the other modes but I can't be sure.
Hope this helps :)

I find that the best settings I can achieve are to calibrate the TV in movie mode using the Mute 1-8-2 settings then using standard when using an SD Source.
You can however calibrate to any of the modes and then use the lighter and darker settings of the different modes to help things like Games made for Sony Bravia's Vivid Mode.

what i notice on my model is that with any other mode (custom, dynamic and standard) i get black crush. I think this is because the Dynamic CE (contrast Enhancement) DNIE apply on the picture. While the picture may look more vivid, blacks are severely crushed.
This is why i though movie mode may be the only "correct" mode to get a "correct" calibration. And of course, after watching this i realize why most members recommend Movie mode as a default viewing mode.

Drakaal,
Can you elaborate please? What exactly are the mute 182 settings you refer to?
Cheers,

he meant to the service menu. To enter to the SM you need mute 1-8-2 power combination keys.
I didnīt understand what try to say on the rest of his post, but again iīm a newbie :)
