View Full Version : Repair Technician: Your SXRD A2000 has "burn in", that'll be $1200

After having a "green blob" issue with my TV (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=905895), I have finally been able to take it to an authorized service repair center and their diagnosis is that my rear-projection LCD Sony SXRD (model A2000) has "burn in" and is not covered by warranty.

So to fix the problem that supposedly does not exist with this TV (despite no neglect or misuse of the TV at all), the cost of repairs is $1200.

I have called Sony's support center and their response was that burn is CAN happen to that TV and that I am NOT the first person to have had this happen.

A TV that cannot suffer from burn in has in fact suffered from burn in. And Sony has their hands up as if, despite the claim that burn in is not an issue with this kind of TV, it is in fact an issue with this kind of TV.

Last Sony television I will ever buy. This is totally unacceptable.

I replied to your other thread. If your set DOES have burn-n, it would be the first one I've ever heard of.

It's happened. The polarizers wear unevenly across there surface. It's not technically burn in because it doesn't happen to the panels themselves.

But if it walks like a duck and quaks like a duck.. Well I call duck!!!

According to the technician, the problem is not an optical block failure but a corner of the optical block has been burned.

So it's allegedly not a manufacturing/engineering defect...the burning of the optical block must be a normal functioning of the block...

Well it DOES sounds like an engineering defect if Sony adknowledged the "burn in" while an optical block is burning up... (sounds like it needs better cooling system)

I've heard from a reputable source of a case of "burn in" on an SXRD before. Very, very rare, but does have happen.

Yeah, sorry to bump this old thread, but, hell yes it happens: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=14346889&postcount=2511

It happened to me too.

Now, I'm hearing that they won't cover it despite the fact that I have a 3-year extended warranty from Sony themselves?
